1. Description of Our Team
We are two classmates: Bianca and Adriana, ages 16 and 17 respectively. We decided to do the project because we both like International Diplomacy. As active members of our school’s Model United Nations club, we both thought that this contest would be an excellent challenge for us. Creating public awareness of the atrocities that currently exist in our world is the one of the most important decisions that a person can make. Therefore, we recognize the importance of educating people about Human Rights. Because we are only two members, we divided the tasks in half, taking into consideration what each of us likes and our strengths and weaknesses. Therefore, Bianca focused primarily on what Human Rights are, while Adriana concentrated on the more technological aspect of the project. Our coach, Mrs. Gloria Custodio, is also our Advanced English teacher. She was the one who encouraged us to participate in this contest. Mrs. Custodio has also been correcting our grammar and proof-reading most of the work that we did. In addition, Mrs. Custodio has advised and guided us throughout the whole process, in order to successfully complete the project.
2. Summary of Our Project
Our Doors to Diplomacy project focuses primarily on what Human Rights are. It is vital that people understand their importance because it is something that concerns all of us human beings. Through our web page, we explain in a concise way, a persistent problem that has revolved around the African nation of Uganda. This country which has been under constant strife between the insurgents and the government, still exhibits some violations to the Human Rights Laws.

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:more than 50%
B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:more than 6
C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dial-up modem
D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:more than 6
4. Problems We Had To Overcome
We, Bianca and Adriana, are very busy students; we both take AP classes and are in honor classes. We both play sports and do many activities after school. It is possible to say that we don’t have a lot of leisure time. However, we were interested in this project since we heard about it, so we decided that it would be a challenging quest for us. Although we tried to get together to do the project, we divided it by half, worked on each assigned part individually, and e-mailed each other back and forth. While we were doing the project we developed better time management skills, but it was hard to actually find time when both of us were available.
5. Our Project Sound Bite
While investigating for the project, we gained greater insight on a subject that involves everyone in the world. Our school has always encouraged us to stand up for what is right; therefore, this project has helped us distinguish right from wrong.
6. How did your activities and research for this Doors to Diplomacy Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?
While we were working on the Doors to Diplomacy project we learn new skills such as thoroughly explaining our ideas and explaining what we think of a particular subject. The project has helped us improve our organization and time management skills because we have had to juggle many activities at once. We are fortunate to attend a great school that has very enriching classes. Therefore, we took advantage of this, in order, to expand our knowledge on the subject. Also, as members of the Model United Nations club, we had the previous familiarity with Human Rights. This previous understanding has helped us immensely in order to successfully complete the project.
