Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Our community is such, that it reflects our cultural richness. We continue to respect, and follow the ideals and traditions that our ancestors left behind. And that, of course, also includes the traditional methods and recipes to cook the healthiest and most sumptuous meals the world has to offer; and that, combined with the qualities of kindness and care are what make our character powerful. The combination of an appetizing and nutritious diet with a pinch of compassion, diligence and love for our culture, is what gives us the energy to preserve our tradition and pass it on to posterity. Our community perseveres, in unity, to bring the targeted goals to fruition, be it toiling for the day of harvest, or helping the ones in need. Our visits to Hotel Vivanta, and to the village of Tigaon are evident descriptions of a nutritionally balanced, united, and kind community.

2. Summary of Our Project

Curry Katha is a depiction of an Indian society that perseveres to make the most delectable curries. ‘Katha’ here, is a Hindi word, whose literal meaning is- story. A great emphasis has been laid on the lifestyle of the common civilians filled with love, who live in the countryside and follow the traditional ways of cooking and living. The title symbolizes the significance of curry in uniting communities beyond the horizon in India, it shows the story of how curry reaches one’s table at different places and how diverse a food item such as curry can be.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:21-50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:more than 6

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dial-up modem

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:more than 6

E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):

Yes, the internet has been incredibly helpful in research. With the vast amount of information available on the internet, the students had access to a wealth of data. This facilitated more efficient and effective research. More than 90% of our workforce used the internet at home. There were more than 15 workstations used for the CyberFair project, across 2 computer labs. The connection speed was 72 mb/s when connected from the LAN network of our campus. Our classroom has been connected to the internet for more than a decade.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

Technical Difficulties: We were inexperienced in website establishment and animation production. But, with guidance, we were able to do the website creation successfully. Availability of all the team members Meeting up with all the team members was certainly a task as the availability of each member was equally important. Time constraints Working with the physical school, it was cumbersome to plan visits to the local communities.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

Enthusiasm, Hard work, and constant evaluation- that is what this project meant, to the students of our school.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

International Schools CyberFair projects can support standards, required coursework, and curriculum standards by providing students with opportunities to develop and demonstrate skills and knowledge related to different subject areas. For example, a project that focuses on environmental sustainability can help students to develop their understanding of science concepts such as ecosystems, climate change, and renewable energy. Similarly, a project that explores cultural diversity can help students to develop their understanding of social studies concepts such as cultural identity, globalization, and human rights.

In addition, International Schools CyberFair projects can support the development of skills such as critical thinking, research, communication, and collaboration. These are important skills that are often required in various academic and professional contexts.

Overall, International Schools CyberFair projects can provide students with meaningful learning experiences that support the attainment of academic standards, required coursework, and curriculum standards.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

Information technology (IT) involves the study and application of computers and any type of telecommunication that stores, retrieve, studies, transmit, manipulate data and send information. Information technology involves a combination of hardware and software that is used to perform the essential tasks that people need and use on an everyday basis. We couldn’t create our website without information tools and technologies.
Tools: - •Notepad++ •Pixlr.com • GitHub •Cloudflare •Dreamweaver •Sublime •Help from Google and YouTube •Baker-Bootstrap •CDN (content delivery network) •HTML •CSS •JavaScript •jQuery Technology: - Technology is not only changing the education curriculum, but it’s also transforming traditional paradigms of learning. As it is 2023 today, most of us used the latest technologies notepad (Notepad++), Web browsers, and the recently created sources like Baker-bootstrap and HTML.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

“We ought always to try to influence others for good.” -L. M. Montgomery The constant striving for better is essential in order to make a positive impact on society. And of course, this striving wouldn’t alone make much of a difference- what we need, is knowledge, hard work, and to spread awareness in all parts of society. Throughout this project, as we, the students worked on our assignments, we had in us, will, commitment and determination. Our topic, as you may already know, was curries- local curries, that reflect the rich past and flavours of our much more diverse nation. But, unfortunately, some of these delicacies got lost somewhere on the way, and today, most people in urban areas, busy with their hectic lives, never make an effort as to conserve this long-standing. So, as to make a difference, the students went on to visit those who know- chefs of a very well-known hotel, and the locals of a village not far. Through these trips, not only did we, as students, learn a lot, but also set an example for others. The students of Aravali International School seemed to have made an impact in several ways- those visits being one of them. We volunteered to invest our time and resources to help those in need, such as feeding the poor in need. Other than that, some students took a step forward and also helped the stray animals who were deprived of food and shelter. Looking at it from another point of view, we also acted as representatives of the younger people, and showed the people around them, that by hard work, change is imminent, and that the will to bring a change for good is still alive in the younger generation.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Through this project, in order to enhance our knowledge, we made visits to those who had real knowledge of the subject- one to Hotel Taj Vivanta, and the other to the Tiguan village, which lies close to the outskirts of the city. The chefs at Hotel Vivanta were without a doubt a great help. They gave answers to all curious minds that went there- from the origin of the curry to the spices that go into its making. But the part of the project that seemed to have taken all the spotlight was the visit to the Tiguan village. As the trip was being planned, one of the students seized the opportunity and started working on putting his idea on paper, to share his knowledge with the locals while he would be there. The idea here, was to make the villagers, most of whom were farmers, aware of the issues that they may be facing, but might not really be aware of. One of the issues raised in this discussion was how they might be a victim of internal theft. Internal theft on farms is a serious issue that can lead to significant financial losses for farmers. He also went on to suggest some measures that they can take in order to avoid such malpractices from taking place in the future. As the discussion unfold, we also got familiar with the farmers’ conventional agricultural practices. So, putting our knowledge to use, we made them aware of some modern agricultural practices, which will not only be cost-efficient but also save time and effort. The locals were not only impressed by our knowledge but also thankful to our team for their efforts. Though this may not be too much, the students were happy to at least have made an effort.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

CyberFair projects typically involve students working together with teachers, parents, community members, and local organizations to research and document their community. These helpers and volunteers can provide valuable support to the project in a number of ways, such as:

1. Sharing their knowledge and expertise: Community members, local organizations, and experts in different fields can share their knowledge and expertise with the students, helping them to develop a deeper understanding of different topics and issues.

2. Providing resources and materials: Volunteers can provide students with access to resources such as books, archives, and historical documents, as well as materials such as cameras, recording equipment, and software.

3. Assisting with research and documentation: Volunteers can assist students with conducting research, gathering information, and documenting their findings, helping to ensure that the project is accurate and comprehensive.

4. Providing feedback and guidance: Teachers, parents, and other volunteers can provide students with feedback and guidance throughout the project, helping them to refine their ideas, improve their work, and stay on track.

Involving helpers and volunteers from the community can not only enhance the quality of the project, but also help students to develop important social and communication skills, as well as a sense of community involvement and engagement.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

A little inspiration goes a long way. This project was a complete learning package for us. From gaining a sense of accomplishment while working in a kitchen to making healthy choices. We learned about spices originating from India while sharing a good conversation. Basic Math, Science and language skills were an integral part of this project. We learned the history behind the Indian curries as well.
