1. Description of Our Community

Our local community is located in Romania , a Central European Country. Situated in the center of the depression with the same name, at an altitude of 360-380 m, Radauti has established its hearth in the confluence angle of Suceava with Sucevita. The oldest certification documentary of Radauti dates from 1413, in a document of Alexander The Kind. At the middle of XIV century, there was already a flourishing settlement here, so that Bogdan I (1359-1365) decided to build at Radauti the main church of the country, which became the center of a bishops. It has about 25000 citizens of different ethnicities, religions, cultures and political ideas. This region has been under many occupations, therefore these regions left a mark over these places. Not to be forgotten is the region where we live in: Bukovina. This region has its location in 3 countries: Romania, Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova. Even so, this region is a like a whole and we have all bonded with each other.

2. Summary of Our Project

Education is the consequence of attempting to express the immense beauty our world. Beauty cannot be expressed in words, they are insufficient - beauty can only be understood by the soul and as such we must seek for the most perfect of spirits to capture the essence of what is beautiful and celebrate it in art. The tangible harmony between my people and our home is a strong bond of education through music and stories of old. The highest forms of knowledge, that we yet still have through the lessons and trials of our ancestors, is slowly being lost and I believe it is important for one that calls himself educated and speaks of our Moldavan culture to commemorate the very fragile, yet firmly grasping, charm that remains in our music, as little as it does. The said beauty and artistry of our connection to nature through sound can only be celebrated if first we understand the very sentiments that gave birth to this form of education and try to seek reason as to why we managed to lose it, so that we may never lose it again.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

Most of the obstacles in creating our project came from the fact that a lot of the history of our music and traditions aren't readily available on the internet, but often come solely from our folk and folklore.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

We mostly kept the project in our hands during the creation of it, but as soon as we dug deeper than just the surface level we had to involve people with greater knowledge than ours. To us it meant a journey to redescovering our culture and discovering parts of it that, before, weren't so accesible to ours by interacting with wise and very interesting people.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

We tried to adress a way of educating people, but especially children, that has been lost through modernisation and standardisation of our school systems and that, before our times, stood as the universal access to education for everyone - education through understading nature and our inner self through art. This project has proved to us that behind every story of old there are tens, if not hundreds, lifetimes of sacrifice all put into becoming better humans and understading more than ever before, striving to be better than the ones before us and that a lot of knowledge we had about our world has been lost in favour of putting everything that we once could explain in the mysterious shadows of scientifical unexplainability. Because it proved to us so much, we learned as people to follow our lives much more attentive, not only as we step physically through the many ways of our destinies, but especially as we step inside our spirits to achieve a deeper connection to nature and the world around us.

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

Much of the information in books seemed, in the end, to be of little use for the most part. We noticed how written words can never explain what tradition really means and how the very definition we find readily on the internet or in our dictionaries of what this word could mean fail to grasp the essential feeling and nature of celebrating our world. Words, not only fail, but become an obstacle in understanding the essence of art as oft we come across interpretations that really have no meaning in describing art - we believe now, that we have enrichen our understading of these very things, that interpretation is always wrong when it comes to trying to feel and/or decipher art, it is merely saying that tradition ought to be, because if it wouldn't then there would be no tradition. But commemorating nature and our ways of life has a clear and easy to see purpose and meaning, there is no need to explain such a concept, there is only need to feel it, in order to unlock the knowledge behind it. As such, internet, books and especially 'scholarly' works have been of no use in our journey to learning more about our folklore, instead we managed to find a greater pool of knowledge than we have ever come across by observing the way of life of those who still live as their fathers before them did and by trying to celebrate life ourselves.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

Our teachers have been a great and plentiful help for our project, without whom many of our opportunities to understand such a topic on a deeper ground wouldn't have been available to us and without whom the blueprint of our project wouldn't have come out so pretty as it did.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

We wish that people that share our home and community take out from this project whatever makes them happier in how they experience life and we wish that others seek to understand more about the ever-giving treasure that is our folk and folklore.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

In our journey, we had the great opportunity of talking to people much wiser than us and we noticed how our own interest in such things managed to inspire those that we spoke to to find their own calling to understanding our culture and we hope that we also managed to show others how beautiful our people and our lands are.
