Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Changhua City is located in the northeast corner of Changhua County, Taiwan. In 1933, the 'Urban Correction Plan' was carried out, and Changhua City was officially born since then. Changhua City has a pleasant climate. By the end of 2022, Changhua City will have a population of about 227,000. It is the most populous county-level city in Taiwan. The railway center of Changhua City is Changhua Station, which is currently the only railway station in the city with a longitudinal line run by the Taiwan Railway Administration. Changhua takes Bagua Mountain as a landmark, and there is a giant Tathagata Buddha with a height of 23 meters on Bagua Mountain, which is famous all over Taiwan. There are 11 historical sites designated by the Ministry of the Interior in Changhua City, one of which is a national monument with a history of nearly 300 years. Changhua Confucius The temple was once an important place for the development of culture and education in the central region. In terms of specialties, Changhua Meatballs, Hot Pork Rice, and Cat and Mouse Noodles are known as the 'Three Treasures of Changhua', and the emblem of Changhua City takes this as a symbolic meaning. There is a fan-shaped garage in the north of Changhua Railway Station. It is currently the only preserved fan-shaped garage in Taiwan. It is a designated historic site in Changhua County and is currently open to the public. The Lai He Memorial Hall is also an important tourist attraction in the city.

2. Summary of Our Project

The protagonist of this topic is 'Wangzhangfa'. Wangzhangfa is not the name of a person, but the ancestors hoped that 'the Wang family can develop in the long run'. Three-story mixed building. In 1904, the Wang family broke the superstition and built three consecutive Fujian-style two-story wooden buildings and endowed each with its own unique characteristics. Not only did they have different styles of facades, but they also built various decorations such as balconies and parapet decoration The carvings and designs are very careful, and the three-story houses are also well-preserved Japanese era street houses. Businessmen seek profit, but so far, Mr. Wang Nenghong does not pay attention to commercial interests. Instead, he focuses on maintaining and repairing this century-old historic site and revitalizing this space, hoping that it can become a public space where everyone can come in and have a dialogue with the old house. At present, the first floor is an open venue for art and cultural activities, and the second floor holds parent-child activities from time to time, hoping to allow more people to enter the old house and have more interactions with the old house. The concept of 'Wangzhangfa' run by Uncle Wang is to be friendly to old houses, not to be blinded by modern economic interests, to unite the community and even people all over the world to jointly maintain, cherish the historical value of old houses, preserve common memories, and not let old houses lose the value of its existence.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

From the beginning, when we considered the type of topic, everyone had different opinions. After the discussion, we decided to use historical monuments as competition categories and named them 'Memory House, Baby Games'. Because of the limited time, some students have no computers or limited time to use the Internet. They are often unable to pay homework on time, and the progress is postponed. Provide related devices such as computers. When dealing with verbatim drafts, we must concentrate, and we must also train earpower and understand the meaning of Minnan. When we encounter some parts that really do n’t understand, we will discuss it together. The most bottleneck is the production of the webpage, because this is an experience that has never been before. No one will do web pages. We also asked the school's computer teacher and invited the teacher to serve as our web pages instructor.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

Participating in special research is a experience that is different from traditional courses. From strange to actual operation, it is very in line with practical needs. For schools, we have opened the popularity of the school and let everyone know that there is a Lu Ming junior high school in Changhua. For the community, through the spread of the Internet and the report of the special topic, the old house of 'Wang Changfa', allowing everyone to walk in to drink a glass of tea or coffee and enjoy a good time.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Through this special study on 'Memory House, Baby Games', I realized the wisdom of the ancients, and also learned that the maintenance of ancient houses is not easy. We have learned a lot of knowledge related to the school curriculum, and combined the topic with the school curriculum. This special interviews, we learned note-taking skills, computer typing skills, Hokkien cognitive skills and writing skills. About the division of labor and cooperation, we visit on time, discuss problems together and complete each progress, and the teacher will also intervene in a timely manner to provide guidance. Uncle Wang is a person full of enthusiasm for life. We feel that 'Wang Changfa Company' is no longer just an old house, but a resting place full of warmth. Because we have a need for tutoring after school on weekdays, so holidays are the most suitable time, and Uncle Wang also tried his best to meet our needs, and finally determined the interview time to be January 8, 2023. Activities outside the campus are not courses that can be presented by the education system according to the script. We hope that through this CyberFair, we can not only share the results with Uncle Wang, but also promote this ancient house to more people. I believe it will also drive the development of the surrounding area and activate the community. When we join CyberFair, we use the convenience of the Internet to process documents, and share and prepare data through cloud hard drives. In addition to data sharing, the completion of work projects is also more efficient.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

We used digital cameras and mobile phones to take pictures, video and audio to complete the interviews. Then, use computers and network devices to edit text, query data, and create web pages, and use portable hard drives to store data, share and edit through cloud hard drives.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

We visited ' Wangzhangfa' and interviewed the owner of this old house, Mr. Wang. Many students from Luming Junior High School knew that we participated Cyberfair, and they asked us what the theme was. This is a good opportunity to introduce the old house of Wangzhangfa. As the children of Lukang, we not only learned about the difficulty of repairing and preserving old houses, but also overturned our image of the use of traditional old houses in the past. Mr. Wang actively wants to pass on this old house. He hopes that ' Wangzhangfa' is not only the house of the Wang family, but also the house of everyone. His original intention and vision have moved us. We hope that through this competition, let Everyone knows the ' Wangzhangfa', so that historical relics are no longer just historical sites, but can be innovated, rebuilt, and diversified without destroying the structure.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

In order to break through the carving impression of the old house, everyone decided to participate in the online blog competition with the concept of contrast. We introduced a century -old old house, but the use is the weekly event, which is different from the old house of Lugang. In particular, we can still see such an old house near the city of Changhua, and we have a feeling of quietness in trouble. Changhua City is the primary city of Changhua County. The pace of life is relatively compact, and the 'Wang Changfa Business' is located in the city center of this city. It can provide a space for travelers to rest and relax and also provide a space for the people in the place where you remember and know the past in Changhua. Before the work is completed, in addition to the teachers and participating students, parents are very supportive of their children's participation in special research. They also give some suggestions for the work. We look forward to more people know the 'Wang Changfa Business'.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

When we were in English class, the teacher shared her child's story of Zhua Zhou. A classmate said that she passed by Changhua Railway Station once, and saw “Wangzhangfa” that the teacher said, but it was an old house in the urban area, and felt very strange. Later, when we heard that there was an online gambling competition, we decided to use it as a our research topics. We are very grateful to Chien-hui Chan for being willing to be our instructor because she happens to be the daughter-in-law of the owner of Wangzhangfa, and Uncle Wang and her husband happen to be the owners of the Sanliandong of Wangzhangfa, and they are also willing to accept our interview and visit the old house.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

After the interview, it was discovered that Mr. Wang's motivation for buying turned out to be a lamp with a long history. We thought it was easy to do Cyberfair, but later found out that the process is very cumbersome. It took a long time just to sort out the files and make the webpage. In the end, we were stuck on the webpage. Help and improve efficiency, everyone is looking forward to completing the work as soon as possible. From the process of doing Cyberfair this time, we ignored that some of the members did not have computers at home, and their information skills were relatively insufficient. They could only complete their tasks at school, so their progress was delayed. But everyone did learn a lot from this experience, including time management, which will be the focus of our consideration when dealing with anything in the future. Team spirit is our biggest gain in the competition, and the picture of everyone supporting each other is warm.
