Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

The Chianan Plain is flat and has a pleasant climate. It is quite suitable for growing crops. It has been the largest rice-growing area in Taiwan since ancient times. Chiayi is located in the center of the Chianan Plain and is also the largest part of the Chianan Plain. There are many Well-known cultural and natural attractions, such as: Suantou sugarcane factory , Fengtian temple, Chiayi distillery, Japanese-style buildings, etc.

2. Summary of Our Project

Usually traveling to Chiayi, driving is the most convenient way. However, although the bus speed is slow, it is another leisurely pace of life. Our special topic is to introduce the characteristics of various stations in Chiayi in the Chianan Plain by bus. In this ancient land, there are many cultural customs that are not found in cities. It is worth recommending that everyone come to Chiayi to slow down and appreciate it carefully.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:more than 50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:more than 6

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:2-3

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

We have never been to many places before. So when we arrived at certain places, we felt unfamiliar at first and did not dare to walk around. But usually after an hour, we felt that this place was very interesting. Another thing to overcome is that sometimes we need to use other means of transportation to go to other places. For example, from Chiayi Railway Station to Minxiong Railway Station, we decided that it would be more convenient to take the train. In fact, it’s not that this bus route is poorly planned, but that tourists from other places can transfer to Chiayi bus No. 106 at several train stations or high-speed rail stations to go to various places.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

Normally, what we study is only what the teacher teaches, but we can also go to different places by taking the bus, see different things, and learn knowledge that is not in textbooks. We also introduce you to come here to see different cultures.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

A. In order to be able to go to each stop in a short time, we first divide into three groups, and then assign each group to be responsible for the stops introduced. Although everyone will not go to every stop, but we have learned the division of labor and cooperation. In addition to reducing the Everyone's workload and equal. B. This is also in line with the spirit of group interaction and independent research mentioned in the curriculum syllabus in Taiwan.

C. We learned a few things in this experience: querying information skills, taking pictures, writing skills, taking transportation to the destination by ourselves, etc.

D. Because of this, we also become more independent and know how to solve problems.

E. We feel that there are many places in Chiayi County that few people know about. You can go to these little-known places by taking a bus. We also use the website to introduce to everyone that there are more places to go.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

A. We use mobile phones to take pictures and record videos.

B. Create a web page using Google Sites.

C. Everyone in the class has a touch-screen laptop provided by the Ministry of Education, as well as a fiber optic network.

D. Microsoft 365 for writing

E. Wikipedia is used to query information

F. Take the bus with an electronic ticket

The most impressive thing is the mobile phone, because even if the photo is not taken well, you can delete it and retake it. We look at the photos we took while making web pages and recall many interesting things.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

When you come to Chiayi, everyone only knows the internationally famous scenic spot - Alishan. However, there are many interesting scenic spots in Chiayi, but few people know about it. We introduce to everyone that when you come to Chiayi, you can go to various scenic spots by bus and enjoy the scenery different from Alishan. We also make people in these places accessible to people in different places

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Although there are many well-known scenic spots in Chiayi County, there are still some lesser-known ones. For example: Bantaoyao and Dincaiyuan. These two scenic spots have preserved the culture of rural Taiwan in ancient times. We hope that by introducing these scenic spots, we can let everyone know different characteristics. In addition, it is very convenient to drive in Taiwan, but traveling around by bus will be a different experience, enjoying a slow life.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

When we arrived at various stations, we met a few commentators who were very enthusiastic to help us explain the characteristics of these places. For example, Bantaoyao, Chiayi distillery, Pineapple hill, and Suantou sugarcane factory. During the whole trip, another parent also helped us a lot, including transportation.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

There are many things that we can't learn in school. Usually, our parents drive to travel around the world. This time we take the bus to play, which makes us feel quite special. Although the bus ride is very slow, we can meet different people on the bus and learn how to respect the people on the bus and not interfere to the peace of others. When we arrived at each station, we also learned to understand its characteristics and listen to other people's introductions. We also learn to use computers to search for relevant information.
