Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Yunlin is located in the south central part of the west of Taiwan and at the northernmost end of the Chianan Plain. It is known for its simple rural scenery and unique agricultural products. The geographical advantage of being close to the mountains and the sea has given birth to all kinds of agricultural specialties, such as coffee in Gukeng.

In addition, Yunlin has the largest number of temples in Taiwan, attracting tens of thousands of people to visit every year. Of course, Yunlin's deep cultivation of the cultural industry can not be ignored. Taiwan's puppet opera began in Yunlin and became famous in the world, which also makes Yunlin County enjoy the reputation of the hometown of puppet opera.

2. Summary of Our Project

Our plan is mainly to strengthen people's understanding of running and raise their awareness of running, hoping that everyone can develop the habit of running in the future. In the early days, running was the most important skill and tool in human survival, helping them to get food and avoid danger. Up to now, although the meaning of running for people is not these, it is still very helpful to their lives.

First, running can strengthen people’s bodies, minds, and maintain health. In addition, it can also solve some common problems, such as headaches, insomnia, and unprovoked body aches. Secondly, most people in Taiwan have been in a high-pressure environment for a long time, and so have many people in the world. Running is able to soothe anxiety, reduce stress, and even bring pleasure. It can also concentrate on thinking and solving problems in the process of running alone. If people develop the habit of running, they can alleviate or eradicate these troubling problems faster and more directly, and activate the brain and increase concentration. Third, aging is a concern or even worry for people of all ages, and running can effectively delay the aging of the body. Increasing bone density, building the body muscle mass, and greatly reducing the risk of disease death are all benefits of running. And then it will make people live longer. There is a lot of pre-knowledge that people need to know before they can get into the habit of running.

In addition to the fundamental understanding of running, there are lots of different methods that are also worth trying, and there are some precautions before running. These are the reasons for the necessity of this program and of course the motivation of our team.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:more than 50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:more than 6

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:more than 6

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

The process of researching was smooth because there is an abundant amount of information on the Internet that is related to our topic. However, this also encountered a problem, that was, we needed to spend a lot of time checking the information that we gathered. We put together a lot of relevant data, compared it, and verified whether the sources are credible and convincing. Therefore, we divided the work into many different parts, so that we can more efficiently sort out the data from different people and then find the required information faster in future work.

Another problem is conveying messages between team members. The reason is the members of the group come from two classes, one is from the international department and another is from the bilingual department. Two classes' course time is different, so it is difficult to cooperate with the available discussing time.

Nearly a month of winter vacation also fell into the period of doing the project, which made the whole plan more difficult. To address these issues, we usually use social media, such as line or Instagram, to convey messages, assign works, and assign a leader to each of the two classes to notify messages. The team leader also set up a worksheet to arrange each person's work and deadlines, ensuring that all work can be conducted efficiently and regularly, and increasing the fluency of the plan.

In the process of doing the project, we also met things that we were not familiar with or we couldn't do, including video editing, website designing, and coding. Seeking help from teachers usually solves the problem very quickly. But sometimes when teachers cannot help with the problem, the person in charge will also learn by searching videos on Youtube or checking the information from Google. These difficulties not only provide us with the opportunity to learn but also make the whole plan better in the process of revision.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

By participating in the 2022 International cyber fair, the group has come to realize the crucialness of teamwork. People with complementary skills had to work cooperatively to reach a mutual objective. From another perspective, devoting efforts in this competition has also enhanced our Taiwanese identity. We explored the cultural inheritance, combining with different areas of knowledge, we learned more about our home country. Throughout this remarkable experience, we believe we could promote students to understand their own cultural backgrounds.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Our cyber fair project clearly demonstrated the current phenomenon of running and extensive background information about it. We had also created an aesthetic but educational website to display our work. Additionally, we had conducted a successful interview which allowed the group to gain a comprehend understanding of the running habit prevalent in the community. Last but not least we created an online forum for people to fill in, in order to analyze the question asker more logically with data as evidence.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

A Cyberfair project requires in-depth research, communication, interviewing, photographing, video editing, documentation, and other steps. And then is the most important, collating and making those results into a website, which must be designed and published. We completed the entire research project on running with 11 personal laptops and several cell phones for photographing.

This research, of course, can not be without the help of science and technology. The most important tool in this project is the multi-functional Google, whether as a search engine or using Google's other additional tools, which is of great help to our team. We used Google's search engine to find all the materials; Google docs with the information and data that we need; google PowerPoint to create posters and ppts; Google forms to collect and analyze all the data needed to be related to our topics; and shared folders in the Google Drive to store and organize everything at any given time. Canva is also a helpful tool for us to create PowerPoint and posters, providing many useful templates and materials such as icons, photos, etc., as well as photo color grading. Then there's the photographing and film editing part, where we used an iPhone 12 pro to do all the photographing work, and assign each short video to edit individually with a laptop or cell phone. Finally, of course, the most crucial part is website designing and publication. We use Wix to design our website, and upload the link on Cyberfair official website.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

Our main goal is to strengthen people's understanding of exercise and raise their awareness of it, hoping that everyone can develop the habit of exercising regularly in the future. In the early days of human history, running was the most important skill and tool for survival, allowing humans to get food and avoid danger. While running's reasons have changed over the years, it continues to be an important part of everyone's lives.

Our research centered on how running affects the mind and body, with the intention of educating the public as well as helping individuals cope with today's high pressure society. Our website is being designed to reach out to people online. In addition, we interviewed people to gain insight into the kinds of information they wish to know, as well as their current level of knowledge.

There is a lot of preknowledge that people need to know before they start to get into the habit of running. This includes fundamental understandings and precautions. In the near future, we plan to give a presentation on the benefits of exercise to educate people, as well as encourage them to lead happier, healthier lives.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

As much of the project is still in process, it is difficult to get an accurate idea of the impacts we have made. At present, we are developing our website, which we think will make the biggest difference in our project because of how much information it will offer.

In addition, we are putting together an event where we will present a running presentation in an effort to increase awareness and to encourage people to use our resources (among their own) to further educate themselves and to live healthier lives.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

Our project has been launched with the help of our amazing teachers, who have guided our process and allowed us to pitch our ideas to them for advice. In order to start our project, we created a survey that required a lot of participants to fill out. We were not only helped by our teachers in this task, but also by many parents who shared the surveys with others and helped us get a broader range of responses.

In addition, we organized a community outreach event in which we traveled to a popular running trail to interview runners on their knowledge and opinions about exercise. In fact, we were able to interview a group of well known professional runners who graciously stopped and gave us an in-depth interview that was tremendously helpful for our project.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

We needed to spend much more time than anticipated checking the information that we gathered. We had to compile a lot of relevant data, compare it, and verify whether the sources are credible and convincing. This was a lengthy process, so we decided to break it up into many pieces. Our goal is to better sort out the data from various sources so we can find the information needed faster in the future.

Another problem is the exchange of messages between team members. The reason is because of the unique divide in our school. The international department, and the bilingual department. These two classes have varying schedules which makes meeting times a challenge.

Furthermore, this timeline happened to coincide with winter vacations, when certain team members might not be able to work. We resolved this problem by communicating and scheduling meetings through social media. For the purpose of reducing confusion, worksheets were also created to organize work and deadlines.

Our project provided us with the opportunity to learn and use new resources, such as video editing software, graphic design, and even coding. Because it was rather difficult, we consulted teachers and watched videos for help.
