1. Description of Our Community
The local community selected for the project is the migrant-refugee communities of Faridabad. At the time of partition, when the residents of undivided India were given an option to choose either India or Pakistan as their future homeland, many communities and groups of people decided to migrate to India. Many of these communities were from the Frontier Province of northwestern undivided India, beyond undivided Punjab. These communities were Banoo, Multan's, Kuhatis, Derewals, Jhangis, and Sikhs primarily. A vast land full of henna shrubs and jungles in the vicinity of the capital of the country called Faridabad was chosen among many of the settlements for the refugees coming in. Next on the agenda was to provide them opportunities to earn their livelihood and to provide the basic amenities like electricity and housing. These were the hardworking people who believed in the dignity of labor. These people started off with small businesses and establishments and with sheer grit, determination, and hard work converted their ventures into leading business houses and conglomerates of the 20th and 21st Centuries. They converted a barren land and created one of the most successful settlements of the refugees in India. This project examines the saga of the settlement of refugees in a jungle of Henna shrubs. The whole town of Faridabad has bloomed around these communities. It makes us ponder on the contribution of these refugees to the prosperity and progress of this Industrial Town. We have tunneled and dug deep into the history of the creation and sustenance of the Area called New Industrial Township of Faridabad.
2. Summary of Our Project
Our project is an effort to understand how the community and people of Faridabad have been dealing with waste and how do they see waste - as JUNK OR TREASURE. How the people and different organizations have contributed towards the management and segregation of waste. Look deeply into traditional waste management techniques used by our community, especially by homemakers. We hope to bring awareness about the importance of waste management and sensitize young children towards different techniques to reuse, reduce, and recycle waste.

We are in the digital age. Computers and the Internet are playthings for generation Z. The Corona Pandemic has made us rely more on technology. Best of the design tools, software, and websites are at the disposal of the students with a click of the mouse. Yes, there were times when due to high usage the bandwidth was short, however, our Institution was behind us every step of the way. We had Zoom meetings and online discussions to work on the project. The end result is the evidence of our hardwork.
4. Problems We Had To Overcome
1.Pandemic Situation: Due to pandemic, the students and teachers could not work together. Taking students to conduct interviews and visiting places was a task due to the present situations. To overcome this problem, we used online applications such as ZOOM, Google Hangout to discuss our project. We completed most of the research and work at home and uploaded it to Google Drive. 2.Insufficient Time: As students were not physically in school, together time was difficult to manage. But we managed to get time from the evenings and collaborate the work. 3.Technical Difficulties: We were inexperienced in website establishment and animation production. But, with guidance, we were able to do the website creation successfully.
5. Our Project Sound Bite
This project allowed us to perceive about the environmental alertness, as well as the influence that it is sure to have on the many future students who are to spend their time in the environment and live in it with their families.
6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?
This project resonated with our curriculum and the students were able to relate to it as this is a poignant problem facing the next generation. For this research project, addressed the Environmental Concerns which was also related to the School Curriculum including the SDG's. We polished our interviewing skills, critical thinking and experiential learning of students. We could incorporate this specifically into the Geography Curriculum for middle school and also could initiate waste segregation drives in school and communities. We as Social Science Educators are able to impart experiential learning into our students and also sensitize them towards waste disposal.
