Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

The school is located in a rural area in Taiwan, and that's why we have diverse agriculture development. Modern farming is no longer limited to the land and crops. It has started to transform into more delicate cultivation. One of the most significant examples here is what we study about, chlorella. Because of the combination of agriculture and technology here in Yunlin, a new industry has been created. Farmers can change their place from farm to labs; change their profession from planting to investigating. This innovation brings up the economy by creating precious industry, also begins the infinite possibility of agriculture.

2. Summary of Our Project

This project consists of visiting, interviewing, investigating, and researching the chlorella. Firstly, students went to the company to see chlorella’s actual looks, understand cultivation processes, and take photographs. Afterward, students interviewed the company’s chairman and managers for a few questions, covering the operative, financial, and technical questions. Secondly, they went to the lab to learn about the development through the introduction of researchers. And learn about the chlorella by powerful equipment. Thirdly, students looked for studies and researches on the web, including its uses, benefits, history, etc. After all of the above, we construct a website to merge all the information we got.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:more than 50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:more than 6

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dial-up modem

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:more than 6

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

From the impact of coronavirus to the webpage arrangement are all the problems we met. The government regulated some policies to respond to the spread of the virus. Those policies did influence the actions we planned to do, such as the regular group meeting. Because we can't meet together regularly, so we contact through email and messaging apps. And learn to communicate without the way we used to use while in a face-to-face meeting. Like pointing and gestures, all we have is audio instructions. When we were visiting the company, we need to go separately and maintain social distance. While we were constructing our webpages, we met various problems, such as the low resolution of the video we took and the browser's cache. Eventually, we overcame all of those and created a result that we are proud of our self.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

A promotion of chlorella from the local; to the international stage.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

We connected multiple elements in this project, such as science, biology, art, and information technology. We did lots of researches on the information on chlorella and the cultivation of it. This study helps us with science and biology while we are in class because we already have a level of understanding of it. Also, the students use their artistic ability to design a color palette, to create an atmosphere that readers will feel. Finally, students study a lot on webpages constructing on the internet and learn from other websites. Overall, this improves their research ability and will help their further studies.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

Computers and laptops are our primary tools to connect to the internet. To search for information and do research. Some of us use the mobile phone as an outdoor contact tool. Most of the students own a laptop for easy carrying. Others can use PCs in the school to access the internet. Also, cameras are one of the essential tools that we take photos and videos around. We have various kinds of cameras and lenses to handle different scenes and usages. So students have improved on image-taking strategies over time.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

After the students found the value of chlorella, they know it deserves their attention. So every student word hardly and doing their best. They gather information from everywhere on the internet, from every language they understand. And try to understand everything they found. Our final result shows chlorella's benefits in every field, ultimately and clearly for everyone to understand.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Although chlorella has lots of benefits, no matter on humans, animals, or even the environment, this treasure is not well promoted because of its high price. So we aim to encourage them from a scholarly perspective. We tell people the benefits of it and what it can solve. We have beyond the limitation of financial because its value is way higher than it should deserve. We are promoting them on the internet because this is the space everyone can access to it. Overall, we have made a breakthrough in the restriction that this industry used to have. If it is not well known enough, at least it has gone better.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

The company we visited must give one of the immense help. They are a critical source of our information and give us a very memorable experience. Firstly, we contact the company, and we ask them some questions to make sure if our information is correct. But surprisingly, they ask if we want to visit the company and their labs and there will be people explain to us. Later on, they provide us the multimedia resources such as photos and videos. So we appreciate so much their help and kindness.
