Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

The disabled people in Taiwan accounts for 5% of the population. Many disabled people are abandoned by society, and some even affect their families’ life a lot. Teacher Qihai Cai, a retired teacher from Changhua National Hemei Experimental School, saw one of his students fell in severe depression because she could do nothing at home. Teacher Cai was worried about they because they could not go to college or get employed due to disability. One graduated girl student mentioned that she didn’t want to forget the happiness when learning painting from Teacher Cai. Therefore, in 2012, Teacher Cai established the 'Taiwan painting talk Association' in Taichung City. The purpose of the association is to bring art to the lives of people with disabilities. Moreover, he hopes that one day these disabled people could have an 'art therapy center' to learn painting and to store their paintings, with which all the universities could know how to help disabled people with art.

2. Summary of Our Project

Every child with special obstacles has unique potential and talents. As long as they can help such children overcome innate obstacles, they can also learn, possess a skill, have confidence, and have the fun of living. However, they are often discriminated against and ignored. Hopefully, with the establishment of the Taiwan Painting Talk Association, they can create value for themselves. Therefore, we hope to raise funds for the Taiwan Painting Talk Association to build the 'art therapy center' so that they can have a larger and more diverse environment to help more people with disabilities.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:more than 50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:1

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dial-up modem

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:more than 6

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

Interviewing people with disabilities is an unprecedented challenge for us. It is even more difficult to express their needs well. In the Internet generation, how to stand out from the public and help the social group is the direction for us to follow.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

For high school students, 'thematic webpage creation' is a fresh challenge. We can learn knowledge that is not in the textbook. We have learned a lot about interviews, such as the etiquette to pay attention when interviewing, how to ask good questions, and so on. We learned the communication skills when compiling the information with the team members. Our goal is to help the 'Painting Talk Association' to complete the fundraising, so that the 'art therapy center' can be successfully completed.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

The disabled people in Taiwan accounts for 5% of the population. Many disabled people are abandoned by society, and some even affect their families’ life a lot. Teacher Qihai Cai, a retired teacher from Changhua National Hemei Experimental School, saw one of his students fell in severe depression because she could do nothing at home. 2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Our website can help the Taiwan Talking Painting Association to let more people see it. This association can help people with disabilities regain their confidence. We hope that through our website, the public can help them. With your help and love, we can make these People with disabilities have better resources to make them feel the warmth of the world. On our website, you can learn more about how great the Talking Painting Association is to the society. The founder of the Talking Painting Association has selflessly contributed his whole life to the Talking Painting Association, just to help will be easily forgotten by the society. For the disabled, create a world of their own for these people, and use their own creations so that everyone can see them.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

Through the spread of the website, let more people know about this association, and the creation of this website is based on the cooperation of everyone. Thank you for the help of the teacher and classmates. The teacher is on the side for helping us, and we will also finish it separately. Someone is responsible for building the website, someone is responsible for visiting the association, and interviewing the founder of the association and all the students of the association, and writing the touching stories of all of them. It depends on our own people, the most important It is to thank the people in this society who are silently paying for assistance when society needs help. Thanks everyone for your help.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

I think the most interesting thing is to chat with the students. When talking to them, you need to speak slowly, and you also need to say something that is easy to understand. I think you need extra patience and care. In the conversation with them, you can know In this place of the Talking Painting Association, they have given them the motivation to survive and look forward to the arrival of every day. Although the students here cannot express their ideas normally like ordinary people, they have to rely on every painting they draw in this association to tell everyone their own ideas and stories, how many of them I think this student is quite powerful. There is one who can know the plant name of this plant by looking at the leaves, and can draw the plants perfectly. This skill is really strong.
