1. Description of Our Community
Occupying approximately 3.3 acres, National Jhongli Commercial High School is located in the city center of Jhongli City, Taoyuan County, only 6 minutes away from Jhongli Train Station, 45 minutes from Taipei City, 20 minutes from Taoyuan International Airport, and 15 minutes from THSR Taoyuan Station. It is conveniently connected to the southern and northern Taiwan by Freeway No.1 and 3, and Express Way 66. Adjacent to a tourist night market, a park, a tennis court, and a department store, the campus is situated in a lively neighborhood, inside which several elementary, middle, high schools, vocational schools and universities could be found. The school’ curriculums are based on a practical vocational education policy, aiming to emphasize the features of business-related courses while implementing courses on human arts, arts, civics and ethics, career planning and life education. It has created a humanitarian learning environment, encouraging the students to look at the bigger picture while maintaining a sense of propriety. By participating in this contest, we hope that more people would get know our school and recognize it as the largest commercial high school in northern Taiwan.
2. Summary of Our Project
In recent years, because of climate change and global warming, natural disasters occur in every corner of the world. Environmental issues have become legitimate concerns for discussion. Taiwan is no exception. It is still remembered how the documentary film “Beyond Beauty: Taiwan from Above,” photographed by Chi Po-lin, spurred concerns of environmental issues such as deforestation, pollution, and waste and brought a great impact on Taiwanese people, as well as environmentalists around the world. It reminds that good management of natural resources and the environment has been regarded as fundamentally important. However, when time is gone, everything seems to be the same way it used to. Implementation of environmental legislation and other environmental measures seems not that strong in many developing and transitional countries like us. Therefore, our project aims to introduce the ecological cocepts and implementation of Young-an Fish Harbor, an ecological park, transformed from a waste treatment site and powered by farm biogas. Meanwhile, as high school students majoring in international trade, we hope to do some marketing for this forever green ecological environment, a recreation area with facilities and special beverages . Most importantly, we want people to know “a small potato can make a difference for the world,” but it needs everyone’s support. Young-an Fish Harbor is one of the typical examples.

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection
D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:1
E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):
As to our online environment, we used the computers in the computer classroom of the school and the students’ computers at home. We searched for information during the class of the project, after school and on holidays to recognize the direction and approach the topic. We successively learned the codes and constructed the website. We modified the website according to the teachers’ suggestions. By google forms, we collected people’s opinions and ideas and developed the questionnaire. Network technology is omnipresent and our best tool.
4. Problems We Had To Overcome
We couldn’t work out our schedule and include everyone for the field trip and discussions on the weekend. How could we involve the people who weren’t there? We gave the materials we collected to the team members who were not able to join the field trip to organize and restructure. By doing so, we not only improved our efficiency but also involved the team members who missed the trip. We were not very skilled at designing a website. Whether it’s the layout, the format or the typesetting of the website, what we managed to create were rarely what we hoped for. Faced with such a difficulty, how did we achieve the best result of our website? We first created a layout, and then selected a preferred color for all the headlines. After we decided the format of the menu, the homepage and the footer, we showed our supervisor what we created, and revised according the advices given to us, deleting the parts that were not so good and keeping the good parts in order to present a perfect website. As we didn’t have many experiences with interviews, we asked many similar questions during the interviews and the questions were not in-depth enough. We should have discussed with each other more often, and searched for necessary information and relevant books. Once we came up with the questions, we should have asked our supervisor to review them and give us some suggestions, so we could revise the inappropriate questions.
5. Our Project Sound Bite
After this Cyberfair project, we learned to be efficient with teamwork. We realized that web page construction was difficult, from layout, form to the arrangement of places. However, with everyone’s cooperation, we accomplished the project. Fortunately, we were guided by the teachers and President of Taoyuan Ocean Hakka Leisure Agriculture Association. Thus, we successfully finished the project. By the visits, we discovered the things which were not shown on internet. Our goal was to introduce the history of Yongan Fishing Harbor to more tourists and non-local people and approach the beauty of nature.
6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?
When making the web page, we have acquired new knowledge which was not presented in class, such as new layout design and some web page effects. We learned to edit the photos. When visiting Yongan Fishing Harbor, we attempted to plan complete itinerary. Besides, when creating the form, we learned to develop specific questions. By this project, we learned more about the ecology around the harbor in Taoyuan and the environmental issue encountered by harbor. Our vision was expanded and we acquired the knowledge. We recognized the importance of harbors to Taiwan and the issues of ecological conservation, protection of ocean and sustainable development.
