1. Description of Our Community

The Segamat is a town located in the Segamat District, Johor, Malaysia. It is 95 km travel distance via North–South Expressway from Johor Bahru to Yong Peng, and another 77 km from Federal Route 1. Strategically situated between Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru, Segamat is a fast-growing agricultural oil palm and rubber district, famous for its delicious durians, hence its recent slogan to attract tourists: Selamat Datang ke Segamat - Tanah Raja Buah-buahan (English: Welcome to Segamat - The Land of the King of Fruits). The eponymous town is a typical medium size town with a blend of old and new cultures. A mere 45 minute drive from town offers a variety of hiking and swimming sites namely the famous Gunung Ledang, Air Panas Waterfall and Bekok Waterfall which make an enjoyable weekend getaway.

2. Summary of Our Project

Thaipusam is a festival celebrated by the Tamil and Malayali communities on the full moon in the Tamil month of Thai (January/February), usually coinciding with Pushya star, known as Poosam in Tamil and Pooyam in Malayalam. It is mainly observed in countries where there is a significant presence of Tamil community such as India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia Mauritius, Singapore,South Africa, Canada and other places where ethnic Hindu Tamils reside as a part of the local Indian diaspora population such as Reunion, Indonesia, Thailand, Myanmar, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, Suriname, Jamaica and the other parts of the Caribbean.

The internet connection in the school is moderate. the school compound have WiFi connection with Yes line. our school have about 50 netbooks and PC set to access internet.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

our student's facing problem to gather all the information during school days. since its a peak month with many school programs, students hard to find time to collect information. moreover they are having difficulties to to do revision for exam. Since its a exam week falls on the due date of this project. But still yet the pupils able to complete the project successfully.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

This will bring our kids to the next lever of learning. Moreover taking part in international competition is a bench mark for our school. This will effeminately can gives a lot of benefits for our kids in future. Such as a better internet facilities by the government or NGO to appreciate their willingness to participate in the competition although we are from a small town and not even a city community from Malaysia.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Engaging in International Schools CyberFair Project has created an opportunity to connect learning across disciplines and to real life experiences these interactions with artist and organizers were learning for life. Subject areas covered in the course of carrying out activities include: History, Geography, Art, English, ICT, Event Management and Citizenship. The Internet has helped the students and allowed the student to create something never taught in a traditional classroom

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

The information tools ranged from Smart Phones, Cameras, Video Recorders, Computers, Tablets and Personal Interviews with the artists and organizers. We even interviewed the audiences and collected information.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

This project is very close to all of us including our Principal, who is the first ambassador and spokesperson of the project. He has used various school events, parent-teacher meets and morning assemblies to speak highly about our project. He takes it upon himself to contact the district and state administration, through letters and personal contacts to seek Government recognition. We are also very passionate and have been using the WhatsApp, PPT, Movie Maker videos to pass-on the message to everyone and in our contacts. We would be also posting such videos on YouTube on the culmination of our project.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

our project will effeminately make difference to our community as well as other communities too. Thay can get new information since Malaysia is a multi racial country.more over this will give a new information to the school who peer review us. they will defenatly find new information about our communitiy and culture.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

The staff and students belonging to Bissau as so happy that their home-town has been recognized and chosen as the topic of the project. They have participated overwhelmingly. The parents and staff have also been very co-operative and has directed to the sources of information for the project. Many locals have shared information about the Event or have directed to the right people (Resources). The local police and administration have extended full support to help find detailed information, conduct awareness road-shows and rallies.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

Well, it is hard to tell. Many of them are smiling even with the vel (sharp wire) in their tongue, mouth and cheeks. The kavadi might be very heavy and can be painful too being attached to ones body with spikes. But I have never seen blood and even pain on them. They say, because of the different state of mind they reach during the fast and meditation helps them to endure the pain.
