1. Description of Our Community

We choose Daxi as the community for this project because it is close to our school, and it is a place with historical sites and beautiful scenery. We get to know our community based on the history from interviewing the dried bean curd (alternative term: ‘dried tofu’, these two can be used interchangeably) store owners and some information from the Internet.

2. Summary of Our Project

Our project goal is to promote the dried bean curd industry and culture in Daxi. We want to not only make Taiwanese know more about Daxi Dried Bean Curd, but also have foreigners or international friends experience our Taiwanese local food. Moreover, foreigners could have further understanding about Daxi. While tasting the delicious dried bean curd, people can gain some knowledge about them and also learn more about historical origins and cultural heritage of it and Daxi District.

We use Asus or Dell laptops at school. The Internet Server we use is TANET. Our school upgraded it last October. By using the new Internet, we can search for information much faster and more efficiently.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

Because the team members are not in the same class, it was difficult to find time for discussion and task allocations.We used some nap time to discuss about the tasks and each of us picked preferred tasks in an orderly manner. Our teachers also helped pass along messages to each team member, so we could collaborate with one another.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

Participating in the contest means a lot to the students. They've learned how to do the research and obtained knowledge about the local specialty. Above all, they learn how to cooperate and unite.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

The curriculum requirement is to develop the ability that students can use whenever they want. Therefore, we not only gathered information from the Net but also did the field investigation to experience and learn in the real life. We also achieved the whole person development of“study for life, and apply to life”.“International Education” is one of our school's standard courses. When we share Taiwanese culture and food with our international partner in English, we feel that we can't express some terms very precisely, especially when we talk about the related proper nouns. Through the research, we have learned more terms and ways to express the delicious dried bean curd. We believe we have developed the ability to promote our local specialty. More and more foreigners will be able to know about our delicious Daxi dried bean curd and its diversified products.

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

We used laptops and the Internet to search for information and do the documents about the project. By using the cameras and the recording pen, we interviewed shopkeepers, chairman of Daxi Culture Association, and the neighborhood manager of Tien-Shin. There are more listed on the narrative page.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

We interviewed our foreign teacher Cody, international volunteer James, and other foreign teachers who teach English in Taiwan. When they were in their own country, they had never heard of or tasted Daxi dried bean curd. They knew it and ate it through Taiwanese friends or colleagues. During the interview, they agreed with the delicious taste of dried bean curd, and also supported our action of promoting it on-line.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

We will put the website on the Facebook to share the information to our schoolmates and friends. We believe they can learn many things for our website, and know Daxi bean curd better.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

Huang Shu-Jun told us many things about Daxi dried bean curd in detail and provided us some information. Ms. Huang also treated us the hard dried bean curd. Mrs. Lu, the retail sales shopkeeper of Da-Fang, let us bring the best seller dried bean curds back to share with other people. Ms. Jian, the chairman, explained Daxi culture and industries besides the dried bean curd. She also provided us many materials to do the culture research. You Qiu-Rong, the neighborhood manager, and her husband generously welcomed us and they supported our action and project. She said that she could help us gather information if we told her in advance.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

We've learned that there are still a lot of traditional industries for us to learn and understand.
