1. Description of Our Community

Our community is New Taipei City, and it's the northernmost city on the island of Taiwan. It covers the entire city of Taipei with a total area of more than 2,000 square kilometers. The coastline is more than 120 kilometers long and has a vast territory. The northeast, north and northwest of New Taipei City are facing the seas. Along the northeast coast, there are rich seascape wonders and coastal scenery. During the summer, there are full of people at the sea, and the whole stretch of mountains and seas connect the most popular golden tourist route of people from Taipei.

2. Summary of Our Project

On the coast road of New Taipei City, is there a special house? It is called 'Do Good House'. Ten years ago, the retired math teacher Steven Ho built it with soil. This house does not have a foundation, no air conditioning, but it can resist typhoons reaching the highest level on the wind scale at level 17 and earthquakes of magnitude 8.0. In 2011, Steven Ho participated in the first Taiwan Green Construction Competition. He did not expect to defeat the Japanese architect Ito Toyo; however, He won the first place. Most of the computer tech comes from school T1 and PC ADSL at homes, and finished most of the uploading at school. We achieved parts of the schedules during after school activity hours. Luckily, the ADSL speed is also quick at our teacher’s place, so it saved a lot of time and finished more efficiently. Moreover, we have read the collected date again and again. While analyzing our own useful information, we also uploaded via FTP for a backup, and also easier to share with our teammates, helping each other, also knowing each rate of progress.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

Our team members are not very good at making web pages, so we ask one of our senior students who is good at tech for help. Also, we have very limited time to do the project, but we try to work it out in our spare time. In addition, The teacher we interviewed was very busy, and most of the autumn and winter seasons were rainy seasons; the coastal winds were big, and the drone was even blown off by the sea breeze; however, we still work it out finally.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

Teamwork counts! We have learnt a lot through this project such as teamwork, interview techniques, editing, making web pages. There were also great tasks for us to overcome while collecting and analyzing data along the whole process. Though it was tough, but we never gave up, and achieved the goal eventually. Fortunately we had some warm-hearted people like teachers and senior schoolmates. Our teachers asked us to practice the skills of making web pages, and we did find out that it was not really hard to make them. There were ups and downs during this project, but we know those are all nourishing experience for our growth, and also much appreciation to our teachers to show us so much.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

We are focusing on our local man-made attraction,'Do Good House'.We want to convey the message of being eco-friendly to the earth, our environment. Moreover, we want to enjoy the life and live happily and leisurely in this 'Do Good House'. Through the project, we learn teamwork is very important, and most importantly, we learn by doing, devoting ourselves to our work and participating in the project.

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

We apply some computer software (PhotoShop CS 2018, PhotoImpact X3, CuteFTP, Windows2008 Server, Linux, I Movie), the network platform (Hackmd, Google team-driver, Google Site, Bootstarp),and the camera drone. We also offer each student one iPad for taking notes, editing and making videos, recording the oral interview, doing the Web Page, and so on.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

It was our Teacher Lin, Ying-Pin, also the main instructor of this project, got connected with a retired headmaster of New Taipei City and a director from Chihlee University of Technology to begin the interview of The Smart Do Good House. Teacher Steven Ho dedicates himself to Green Construction, Natural Construction, and Natural Farming. His schedules are fully booked, and it is impossible to arrange an appointment with him if you do not have enough ideas or plan. We told him that we are going to participate in an International CyberFair, so we would like to know more details about his Do Good House. He said “Yes” eventually, and as a teacher, he asked us to think about Natural Construction and the problems of condensation first before interviewing him. And we did ponder deeply about all the issues and difficulties which we might face. By doing this project, Do Good House manifests the eco-friendliness to the environment. We learn to treat our living environment with truthfulness, goodness, and beauty.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Through this project, we figured out how abundant and plentiful the culture, backgrounds, and scenery among our adorable hometown, New Taipei City are; we definitely need more time to taste those favors a lot more. According to the mistakes and lessons we have faced and learnt, we know that we cannot repeat them anymore. We must arrange and set all the agenda into different small groups and collect the data. We also learn the essence of team spirit. With Team spirit, we dedicate our best to our own responsibilities and make the whole project into perfection. And we have also grown with much more confidence and maturity in different aspects. As a living human being, we must keep the faith on everything.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

We want to thank the retired math teacher, Steven Ho for his permission to offer us an opportunity to interview him to convey his idea of eco-friendliness.Also, we want to thank our school Principal Wang, Lu-Lin and our retired teacher Li, Chin-Shan for their encouragement and support. Also, we want to show thanks to The Miner Cultural Association, Jiu-Fen VR Company, tooditech, and Saiert Studio. We would like to thank Gao, De-En,one of our alumni for his coming back to assist us with some information technology problems.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

By doing this project, Do Good House manifests the eco-friendliness to the environment. We learn to treat our living environment with truthfulness, goodness, and beauty.What's more, we figure out how abundant and plentiful the culture, backgrounds, and scenery among our adorable hometown, New Taipei City are. And we definitely need more time to taste those favors a lot more.
