Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Cultural preservation has been overlooked for a long time. Only a few people still possess the skills and want to help with the preserving the country. Taiwan is a country with many traditional culture, however, due to the fact that modern-day people no longer give a hand in the preservation process, Taiwan’s culture is slowly fading without the assistance of the current generation. People nowadays are all about technology advancements; so we should stop and remind ourselves of a time without these technology.

2. Summary of Our Project

As a poprice master, tulong master, and farmer, Mr. Yong-Hua Lai wanted to preserve the traditional Taiwanese methods. He once majored in photoelectric, but is now pursuing a career unrelated to his major. Giving up a possibly rich future, Mr. Lai strived to help the cultural preservation in Taiwan. He gained fame for his meaningful works after news station interviewed him on his atypical view of the world. With hardwork and dedication, we aim for this project to spread words about Mr. Lai’s actions on the cultural preservation of Taiwan; and unite the Taiwanese and foreign people to assist in the process.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

Throughout this project, as a team, we experienced many problems and obstacles. Our problems started from the very first day when we created this team of seven people; this team was created through long persuasion from other members in order for all the members to gather. Then, another obstacle blocked us from achieving our goal, which was the interview we did on Mr. Lai. Not only was it unpresentable, but also, some of the interview questions astray from the topic of our project. However, we overcame this crisis by editing the interview and continue with the few questions we can work with. Our last major issue regarding this project was our time management skills. We had difficulty matching with one another’s schedule during winter break when we had the most time, so lots of discussions could not be made. Although all of these obstacles and other minor problems tested our teamwork and ability to overcome problems, we were still able to complete our website despite the difficulties.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

After days of research, website making, and creating the project, we, as individuals, have changed a great amount together. Our attitude towards independent learning has become more and more p, and we learned the importance to cooperate with each other. In addition, we became willing to learn the skills we did not try before, such as writing a survey and analyzing it. This project enhanced our writing, researching, and problem-solving skills, and as a team, worked through the obstacles in order to achieve the best result.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

With this project, we learned many new skills along with testing the skills we have already acquired. Skills, like planning and organizing, researching and interviewing, and most importantly, cooperation with our teammates, are required for standard coursework. These skills are used in our everyday life, and with this project, we have only improved these skills. This project supports the standard required coursework and curriculum since it teaches and improves our ability to plan, research, and communicate. We do the research ourselves and communicate with one another in order to discuss the actions regarding our website.
