It was called 'the Kyoto of Formosa' in Japanese era. In the 70-80's,This area is known as one of the fashion centers of Taichung city, particularly for young people, and as a major nightlife area. Asean square(also called first square)is located in central district in Taichung.Beside the square is Taichung railway station. Every holiday, there are always many foreign workers here to leisure, party, shopping. You can also see many international backpackers sightseeing tours here. Here you can find Taiwan's traditional snack bars, handicraft shops, special architectures of the Japanese era, you can also taste the Southeast Asian-style meals, and buy Southeast Asian specialty products. From the study we found that the first plaza (Japan's first market) this place, the past is a gilt lot, and this area in the planning of the municipal government, hoping to create a multicultural district, but also to give migrant workers a good Leisure Field, changed its name to 'Asean Square' in 2016. After several visits we found that there are many traditional Taiwanese snacks, but also many Southeast Asian food, more monuments left over from the reign of Japan, Culturally diverse area. Hope that through our introduction, so that more people can know here, come here to spend their day-off.

Although it was practical to use all the software we learned in IT class, we couldn't increase its efficiency. We're slow typewriters even though we're familiar with using computers; we spend a day processing a picture despite our creativity for the photos. Fortunately, all the classmates almost spare their time for our project. We even worked together with everyone's talents; for example, Min-Jun is good at picture software, and then he will focus on film-editing and perfection; Chao-shin and Jia-chi are fast typewriters and they took charge of paperwork. Thus, technical mastery, professional cooperation, …

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

Technical obstacles: Because our web pages are coding experience and skills are not good enough, making web pages and typesetting more difficult Research Experience: As we are working together in the fifth and sixth grades, three of our sixth grade students had experience in participating in the Cyber Expo last year. The inexperienced siblings needed more time to assist and guide. The teacher said that because the three seniors Sister quickly into the situation, to the siblings made a good demonstration. Team communication / cooperation: Understanding each other's expertise and characteristics, cooperation and communication teachers often want us to record in NetBoot exclusive notebook, first use a pen to talk, and then put one's own point of view, so that when we next forget where we discuss When we open the notebook, we can see the detailed record.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

By way of participating in International Schools CyberFair, we believe that the greatest significance is to enable students, teachers, alumni and community to unite together and mutually understand that we are all living in the same community. Students can appreciate the characteristics of their hometown and understand the significance of the inheritance culture. Apart from being able to appreciate different cultures, they can identify themselves more and understand the role of the global citizen.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

This research project combines with Taiwan Schools Cyberfair, Grades 1-9 curriculum, and school-based curriculum. Through this research project, students will show their deep concern about the community and life, and further take the responsibility to introduce Taiwanese domestic culture to the world. This will help broaden students' worldview and connect them with the globe. Along with Grades 1-9 curriculum and the curricular activities designed for advanced classes, students shall develop research skills and the 'ten core competences'. 1. Language Arts: to improve listening, speaking, reading, writing and integrate the four skills. 2. Mathematics: to develop the analytical skill of statistics. 3. Social Studies: to respect people, concern the society, and improve the ability for teamwork. 4. Science and Technology: to learn biological and medical knowledge and develop the skill of using information and technology. 5. Arts and Humanities: to develop the ability of beauty appreciation and creativity. 6. Integrative Activities: to enhance self-understanding and develop cooperative attitude for teamwork. 7. Creativity: to bring about students motivation for research and exploration through analyses and discussions 8. Guidance: to carry out self-regulation for each group and develop the ability to plan, organize, and execute for teamwork. 9. High-level Thinking Training: to develop cognitive, independent, and critical thinking through mental talks and interviews. 10. Problem-solving Skill: to hold discussions, do decision- making, make numerous attempts and corrections to solve the problems and difficulty in the research.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

The information tools and technologies we used are described as follows: 1. Hardware Facilities: A. We will use school Internet and make a connection to the Taichung Educational Web Center with optical fibers. The laptops will use WiFi to work. B. There are 6 computers and 5 laptops in the main working rooms, and there are 10 computers in each advanced classroom for students’ learning and research work. C. Cameras, video recorders, printers, and one-eyed projectors are also provided. 2. Software Facilities: They are all the materials from the IT course, including Namo WebEditor 2006, Namo Flash Creator, CyberLink Power Director, PowerPoint 2010, and even iSpring Free. The software also includes Microsoft Word 2010 and Excel.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

1. Interact with Stores around Asean Square : Through interviews and field research, students will interact with locals and enhance their interaction, discussion and communication skills with others. This will strengthen their friendship.   2. Interact with expatriates and local residents: Students take to the streets and visit foreign workers. Through questionnaires, students improve their cultural identity with the community by visiting residents. 3. Interaction with school teachers and students: Through the final introduction, the teachers and students of the school will learn about the Dongxie Plaza near our school and understand its development and status in Taichung Central District. Through the participation of promotion activities, it will become the promoter of Taichung City.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

After the promotion, we collected feedback from the participants. From the results of the questionnaire, many participants found out more about Asean Square through our tour guide. There are many interesting spots that people do not even know about. They also promised to introduce to their friends in the future. In addition, we also share our achievements with legislator and hope to provide the government to promote the tourism.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

Our school's parent volunteer team captain was a new resident from Vietnam. Through her introduction, we met different cultures. She also introduced us to interview some workers from Southeast Asia. The owner of the Taiwanese store in Asean Square was very enthusiastic about our visit. They shared many stories about the development of this area. The legislators in Taichung are also very concerned about our activities. They also recommend that we cooperate with the municipal government's cultural units in the future and believe that next year we can create more fun and interesting tours for Taichung City

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

Our school is located in the vicinity of the old town of Taichung, with train and bus transfer stations in the area and therefore an important transportation hub. In the past it was very prosperous and many people spent it on holidays. In the past 10 years, many foreign workers have come to Taiwan to work and the holidays gather near the Asean Square

Because people in the area do not know them, they simply judge from their language, dress and color, and are afraid to walk into the old city again.

At the beginning, the students walked near the Dongxie Plaza. We were also uneasy. However, after several field trips, we even knew more about the development and changes in the area. We also found that this area had more traditional wealth than traditional Taiwanese shops. Southeast Asian specialty shops and snacks.

Through our visit, we learned that these foreign workers speaking different languages are full of enthusiasm and goodwill. Therefore, we also learned that we can not judge from one's appearance, learn from each other's respect and appreciation

We are also very grateful to these foreign workers, who also work hard for our country
