Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Ershui is on the southeast border of Changhua, and is the place where we were brought up. The original name of Ershui was [Erbashui] because there are two rivers around Ershui. One of them is named as Zhuoshui River, and the other is named as Qingshui River. From an aerial view, the shape is similar to Chinese character “Ba (Eight).” After the Government of the Republic of China relocated to Taiwan, the place was renamed as Ershui. We chose the produce that has been grown in Ershui for a long period of time, white shaddock, as the theme, in order to help people better understand the rustic township, Ershui.

2. Summary of Our Project

We’d like to introduce the characteristics of Ershui white shaddock, the process from growth period to flowering period of white shaddock, and the functions of foods made of it. The pulp of white shaddock is rich in protein and vitamins B1 and B2. In particular, the content of vitamin C is the highest among all kinds of fruits. The content of vitamin C in white shaddock skin is the highest, and is higher than lemon by 3 times and higher than apple by 7 times. How to distinguish white shaddock from pomelo? Actually, the method is very simple. The size of pomelo is small, and it has a sharp head and wide bottom. The appearance of pomelo is similar to a tumbler. The size of white shaddock is huge, its shape is round, and its pulp is white and rough.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:21-50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:2-3

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:2-3

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

The difficulty and impact faced by our team was that the members kept changing, resulting in the failure to develop a team spirit rapidly. After our team members were changed for the last time, we knew that we didn’t have much time, so we worked even harder as a team to achieve the objectives.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

We and white shaddock are both the treasures of Ershui, and we shall grow up healthily and happily together here.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

We learned to use mental map to analyze data. We learned to apply mental map to life through the interview process, data collection, and picture taking of white shaddock. During the collection of data about white shaddock, we searched websites and books and performed on-site interviews to understand the history of white shaddock. The process of interview process enabled us to better understand everything in life. We combined the growth process of white shaddock with natural environment to better understand white shaddock. For the webpage configuration, in order to reflect the original color of white shaddock, we investigated color matching to strengthen the beauty of webpages. During the outdoor interviews, we were able to admire beautiful landscape at the places that we usually overlook. Computer is indispensable in the modern society. Through Cyberfair, we learned to set up a website.

By participating in this Cyberfair competition, we are able to introduce the special produce, white shaddock, in Ershui to the world and enable everyone to know the characteristics of Ershui white shaddock. Therefore, we named the project as “Fragrant and Sweet White Shaddock.” During the research process, the grandmother of one of the members particularly invited a farmer to introduce white shaddock to us.
