Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Our school is located in Enyang district of Bazhong City, Sichuang. Zhang Hongwang talked about in our project lives with us in same district area. Enyang district is located at the northeast of Sichuan province, east to Bazhou district, west to the Cangxi county of Guangyuan City, north to the Nanjiang County of Nanchong City, south to the Yilong County of Nanchong City. County is in the lower hilly area, lying in the territory in the northwest, southeast lower, consisting of shallow-hill and low hill. It is a subtropical humid monsoon climate zone, with rich heat, abundant rain and long frostless period, which is good for the growth of several crops. This place with spectacular mountain scenery bred unique and rustic folk customs.

2. Summary of Our Project

In this project, dragon's descendant,Zhang Hong-wan is the focus of this activity. The purpose is to let students understand the knowledge of celebrities; arouse students' interest in folk culture, to be a man with noble temperament. At the same time, through this topic, students knew that celebrities paid a lot to get success, so as to help the students to conquer the frustration, stimulate their learning enthusiasm, and lay a solid foundation in order to realize the great Chinese dream. The activity enhanced the ability to collect and compile information, communication skills and the sense of team work of the team members.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:21-50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:1

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:4-6

E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):

There are only 2 computers in teacher office, one of them doesn’t work, and the other one’s internet speed is slow with 2M broadband Internet access. So we had to go to teacher’s home to get on line.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

1)Feeling awkward: Students were nervous when they were communicating with Mr. Zhang Hongwan, maybe it was the first time to interview celebrities, through the teacher's guidance, we slowly adapted to the requirements of the interview. 2) Time limited: Three members in our team, two of them is in grade 7, one is in grade 8, the pressure of cultural studies is great, and they also have to make up a missed lesson on Sunday, the time is limited, so they have to collect first-hand information and write a manuscript on Saturday . 3)Lack of experience: We had disorders with web-page making and social contact because of the first participating CyberFair, there were always times in process we could not manage this. And also, it was a mission impossible for us to make an English version web site with only a modest grasp of the language. So we had to ask Talent&Story Company’s staffs for help. 4)Lack of IT knowledge The mountain is lack of computer hardware, and the members are lack of knowledge, but it is lucky that school administrators make room for the computer in the office; they also provide us with a laptop to complete the project. Instructor had training for the members who will take part in CyberFair, to guide players to find information online, learned related technology about web production.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

We benefit a lot in this game. Through the efforts of more than a month, we collected the basic data together, despite the web page was very bad at the beginning, after repeated revisions, we finally finished it, looking at our own hand-made page, everyone was happy, although this was not the final work, we enjoyed ourselves in the whole process, we are tired and happy in the process, if there are opportunities in the future, we will never miss. We believe that there is a harvest to pay. Through an interview with Zhang Hongwan, we benefit a lot, I think we this generation of young students should have a wide range of hobbies and elegant taste; at the same time, we should cherish the youth to study hard, in order to achieve the dream of the great Chinese. This time we feel the deepest is that people is our best teachers.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

The book knowledge is limited after all, we benefit a lot to interview Zhang Hongwan, through hands-on experience, we knew why he persisted his dream, although experienced all kinds of hardships, eventually succeeded, he is our study example.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

Hardware: computer, DV Software: Meitu Xiuxiu, WPS, WPS Office, IE, Windows, CISS Net: E-mail, CISS-Cros platform, Boadband networks

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

In the thematic activities, students represented the angel of Wanan primary school to introduce Zhang Hongwan to audiences around the world. We mainly acted as the amateur reporter, mainly to find information and interviews, and visiting the character at weekend, in the interview process, lets the student take the opportunity to strengthen cooperation and train ability, let more people understand pursuit of Zhang Hongwan and his dragon dance, so that we can realize the ideal and belief is the internal driving force of the people.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

We fully feel the spirit of the old man in our interview, and we can’t help being affected by him, so that we have the responsibility and obligation to let more people know about dragon dance and dragon dance cultures. Students use their spare time every day to collect and collate information, consume a lot of physical strength and energy, but they never give up studying. Through this activity, each student has improved the IT knowledge, enhanced the information processing ability.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

During the process of information collection and interviews, we got support and help by many warm-hearted people: administrator teacher signed up online for us, encouraged us and helped us solving communicating problems; the guide teacher offered some ideas for our collection of data, and took the initiative to lend us his computer to search information, text input, guided us to deal with the picture, making web pages; the local people eager to lead the way for us on the way to interview; Grandpa Zhang actively cooperated with the interview, said all he knew and said it without reserve.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

Before we took part in the event, we knew little about Zhang Hongwan, who was so rich in experience. We enjoy the honor of his masterpiece when we went to Grandpa Zhang’s home and saw his skilled production skills, we were surprised with the rich connotation of folk culture, the ordinary dragon in the hands of Zhang grandpa can radiate its artistic life and vitality. Grandpa Zhang also personally taught us how to make the dragon and play dragon dance, let us also had a dragon dance addiction. We hope that through our efforts to promote, more people will love the dragon lantern and dragon dance, and in the near future Wanan can truly become the 'dragon cultural village'.
