1. Description of Our Community

Our school is located in Xilaichang town, Pujiang county, Chengdu city, Sichuan province. By the bus from Xinnanmen bus station of Chengdu, through Chengdu to Yaan highway, about 40 minutes, get off from Shouan, you can reach about 10 km to the west. The school is located between the large and small mountains, adjacent to Linxi River, and it is about 15 km to Pujiang county. The school distance is only 10 km from Chengdu-Xinjin-Pujiang fast channel. Under construction in Chengdu - Pujiang intercity railway, will be put into operation in 2016, Xilai town has a station.

2. Summary of Our Project

Xilai town, as the same as the other towns, there are ancient folk customs, thick road with history, rows of seemingly cannot withstand a single blow of the old houses, a thousand years old trees, the elderly woman and wrinkles who was carved with the vicissitudes of life, drain naked children...... Not like other ancient towns, it is spectacular that more than 200 meters street is full of wooden structure of the old houses with the uniform Chuanxi style one by one; Wenfeng tower has a long history, the tower is surrounded by classical opera sculpture with poetry, and this is rare in the world; And there are also the ancient banyan trees, which are growing near Linxi river, just like a row of soldiers guarding the town with solemn majesty, and also like a lively girl, to stretch the waist dancing posture.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

First: the time is limited. The students get up at 7:00 every day, and get out of class at 9:00 in the evening, teacher Liu not only teaches Chinese to the two classes students from Grade 7, but also does a master, so the students only take a little time to do the work at noon, or go home to do a bit at the weekend, to accumulate up athe work little by little. Second: our school is on the ancient town, students usually go shopping, but they often wander with family or small partners, they never really understand the town. When Liu asked us: 'do you know the ancient town?' We answered quickly: 'yes, of course, there is Wenfeng tower, couple tree ......' 'Can you tell me the story?' When Liu asked again, we couldn't say it. Teacher Liu put the digital camera to us, arranged for us to go to interview the town at the weekend, three of us also called on other classmates to take some photos, but when we returned to school, teacher Liu found that many of the photos are not taken well. So teacher Liu took us to visit the town again, while Liu teacher taught us to choose the angle, composition, photos, collect a lot of information. After coming back to school, teacher Liu taught us to collect information about the ancient town on the Internet.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

Old town is a cultural treasure left by our ancestors, which is loaded with massive history. This is especially important with proper exploitation and utilization. Protection of ancient town not only preserved many remains for exhibition, but the important is that it left us with a lot of traditions and the essence of China's traditional architecture. Town and culture, street and the old house, for many people, is a kind of care. Whether development or tourism, should be based on its historical and cultural connotations, combine with the form of industry, mining local characteristics of culture, and in a unique way to display. The ultimate goal is to “retain the context, retain nostalgia”, this is the real significance of the protection and development of town.
