Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

What stray dogs bring is the problem throughout Taiwan. However, since living in Kaohsiung, we treasure our hometown,we love everything here, inclusive of the stray dogs. As a result, the place we interviewed was Kaohsiung as a focus. On the other hand, we also have large numbers of resources here to investigate and to complete this project.

2. Summary of Our Project

After seeing the movie 'Twelve nights', we decided to make the public learn more information about stray dogs through our webs, including infectious disease, derivative problems, affection, policies and animal protection association, etc.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:more than 50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:more than 6

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:more than 6

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

Skill: In the beginning, none of our team members was good at designing webpages. However, after learning, one of our team members can design webpages now. Questionnaire design: It is the first time that we try to design the questionnaire. What questions did we ask? How to let more people know our questionnaire and fill it? Finally, we put the questionnaire on Facebook to spread it. Information: Actually, there was so many information on the Internet. How to make our webpages unique is a challenge. Therefore, we decided not to present the information by the same way as that on the net but present it by our own way.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

Who told us the information of CyberFair is our teacher teaching information system class. During the activity, we overcame a lot of difficulties and learned how to cooperate with each other. However, the most important thing we get is our friendship. We think it is our pleasure to participate in this competition because we got so much from it.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

This competition fitted in our Elective Courses which is about programming computer codes. We learned how to use Photoimpact, Dreamweaver, and other software. We also learned how to communicate and cooperate with each other. We learned how to communicate with people and face problems together. To realize what we want to present to public, we searched a lot of information on the net and interviewed related associations. Our school has taken part in the competition since 2007, so we think it has became routine for our school. Student, we participate in this CyberFair this year, and we are trying to make hard on the webpage. Yes, if we just follow traditional education, we will not have opportunity to participate in this competition, and we will not plan and think a activity by ourselves.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

1.40 computers 2.one telephone 3.Teamviewer 4.Dreamweaver, Photoimpact, Photoshop, Google drive, etc. 5.one library 5.Kaohsiung Concern Stray Animal Association The computer helped us searching a lot of information about stray dogs. We have knew each tool in the beginning, and we downloaded it on the net. Photoimpact, Dreamweaver, Filezilla were donated by school. We think Dreamweaver is the most valuable and helpful tools because we can't do the webpages without it.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

We interviewed associations to get some of information. Before interviewing, we called the associations and arranged the time with them by ourselves. We not only asked members in the associations but also asked volunteers there.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

We think our project may make some difference but not too much. We try to avoid to present our information in the same way which is on the net but by our own way. However, most of the information is come from the net, so the articles we wrote are limited partially. We think our webpages is easy to understand because we wrote them not in complicated terms but in common words. Therefore, it may be easy to learn something from our webpages, and we think the public can learn new things through our webpages. We also searched the information about foreign policies and compared them with the policies of Taiwan, since we think it could make people around the world learn more about us. The first time we met, we were unfamiliar with each other. However, through our communication, we became familiar quickly. We once showed our webpages to team leader's friend who was also do the competition which is take place in Taiwan. The friends said that he thought our webpages helped him learn more about stray dogs and he will help stray dogs after seeing our webpages.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

During doing our project, seniors helped us operate the software and teach us how to use it. Our teacher helped us make webpages. Furthermore, the association agreed to be interviewed without condition. When we complete our webpages, teachers and seniors gave us the advice about how to make the information and webpages better. When we translated our articles, the teacher of cram school also helped us correct the articles.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

In the beginning, we have no idea what to do on our project. However, during collecting information, we found the things that we really wanted to do. The more articles we wrote, the more defects we found in our articles. Therefore, we collected the information and revised our webpages harder and harder. We not only learned a lot of knowledge about stray dogs but also learned that persistence could make our project better.
