Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Cangxi County is located in the northern of Sichuan Basin, the southern of Qinba Mountain, the middle reaches of Jialing River, known as “the hub of Qin-Long region, the defense of north Sichuan” in ancient time. It got its name as the place of Cangxigu. Cangxi has the history of 1700 years since it was founded county in Taikan of Xijin Dynasty. Cangxi County, elegantly called “city of simple and kind lifestyle”, border Enyang in Bazhong city in the east, Jiange in the west, Langzhong in the south, Shaohua and Wangchang in the north. By 2014, county covers an area of 2330 KM2, there are 24 towns, 15 townships, the population of registered residence is 790,600, inhabited by various minority groups, that including Han, Qiang,Yi,Zang,Miao,Hui and Dong.

2. Summary of Our Project

By studying our project, we learn more about Cangxi’s historical and traditional culture; in particular, the story about No.1 scholar in Cangxi inspired and touched us that we don't think we ought to give up studies from family difficulties. An old story “Eight sons became Jinshi among nine sones” inspired generations of people in local work energetically to study.

Our school offered us a classroom specifically for the writing of stories in West China. The classroom with the connection of 100Mbps we can use after class every afternoon and the night at Wednesday and Sunday.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

Time is limited The mid-term examination was coming while we took part in Web page creation activity. Students are carefully preparing for the coming test in order that they can get a good result, but four of us had to spend a lot of time to prepare network exposition. So after communicating with teachers of all subjects, we have made teacher's understanding, as long as we can smoothly complete network exposition, the grade is also good. Just in this short of 10 days, from the beginning of knowing nothing about ancient Hanchang cultures, to go on a field trip for getting material, and read large information, we sort out the relatively complete information in the end. Interview arrangement We had to go on a field trip in our own time, and the place for our interview is far away from school. Thanks to teacher Tao taking us to do interviews many times. Techniques It was a big problem for us to make web pages with images and words. Thanks to teacher Xu, he taught us how to edit images and make web pages. He is our strong IT instructor in the later web pages creation.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

Farm - go in for agriculture, read -reading and studying, chuanjia --hand down from generation to generation in a family; ' Part-time learning and self-study ' four words can be read on the plaque of many old houses. ' Part-time learning and self-study ' is spread widely in the common people, farming can plow and abundant grain and feed families. Reading can know the poem of righteousness, self-cultivation, to establish high german. Therefore, 'farming, reading, handing, family' not only can learn but also can make a living. Here said the 'reading'is to read the books of sages, not to be an official, it mainly means to learn'integrity' of the truth. Because in the eyes of the ancients, to be a better man with good moral supremacy. In the spare time of farming, reading a few words of the Four Books, or reading a few wordsThe Three-Character Classic, the Book of Family Names, The Thousand Character Classic, or listening to the old man to talk about historical romance.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

“Writing story in West China” is an elective high-school course in our schools. One segment of the course was dedicated solely to use computer to write story one afternoon a week. Our school will give students limited credit based on their stories. Through the curriculum practice, cultivate students’ observation and their practical abilities .

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

We briefed everyone around us on our traditional Culture by means of our practice and investigation. A lot of people around us get confused with local history, especially our classmates. We hope that they know more about local historic culture, and learn from the ancient people who were very studious.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

During many field reviews in this study, we found that a lot of the locals don’t know what the originally name of this place is. They don’t even know the story about “Eight sons became Jinshi among nine sons” happened in Cangxi. This story of a studious family encouraged a lot of students in my class

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

Our teacher took us to Qingshanyi and Cangxi County annals office to study and visit many times. The local administrators worked with us to tell a lot of historical stories. We were educated in local historical culture with lecture.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

Several times, teacher brought us to go on field trip during collecting information that developing our investigative skills and exploration of learning, made us to try or learn something new.
