Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Profiled like a seahorse, Antique is one of the six provinces that make up the Western Visayas Region. It is made up of 18 towns where 14 are coastal, 3 inland and one island. Known as the place “where mountains meet the sea,”.

Antique is an agricultural and fishing province. Modern and advanced technologies have grown in the province. A number of banks, growing business and commercial establishments can be found, especially in San Jose. Transportation is not a problem when going to the province. Tricycles, jeepneys, air-conditioned vans and big buses are the common forms of transportation. The number of growing cell sites and telephone companies show that you can communicate with ease. The growing number of Internet cafes, computer shops, and shopping malls also shows how Antique is coping up with the new changes.

2. Summary of Our Project

This is a research project on the Business and Community organizations of the province of Antique. We, the students, wish to know more about our province and to discover its hidden assets. The main aim of this website is to help uplift the local business industry of the province and to encourage the members of the community, particularly the youth, to make them more aware of the community they have and also to make them vigilant in protecting its resources.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:more than 50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:more than 6

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:more than 6

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

Since we belong to the Science Technology and Engineering Curriculum, there are a lot of demands to over time. Our class schedule is quite hectic and time was really our biggest adversary in doing our project. Aside from this, the many activities that we join in school also take up much of our time. Thus, we only had limited time to work and the only chance we could do the project was after the class hours since we don’t have any free or vacant time on our schedule. Also, we had trouble acquiring the information regarding our subject that we need to work on that during weekends. We also had problems on how we can distribute and divide the work in order to finish the project on time.

We also encountered problems with the pictures that we used. Some pictures were blurred, some were misplaced. Some were even accidentally erased in the computer files. Yet despite of all the complications we had encountered, we managed to finish our work on the deadline and that’s what really matters the most.

Cooperation and teamwork were vital in the task, not to mention patience. We also thank our dearly teachers and our classmates who showed their willingness to help.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

Making money is art and working is art and good business is the best art.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

This CyberFair project involves activities which require the integration of our learning in the following fields: Research, Social Studies, Computer Education, English, and in journalism. In the journey in making this project, the team didn’t only gained knowledge about photo editing and web designing but also gained self-confidence and courage needed in our data gathering. This project has provided our school community and the students with the motivation and sense of awareness about the nationalism and determination and unity.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

he activity for this Cyberfair project was an application of the things we learned in our research, computer education, and in journalism. The knowledge learned through the Internet, photo editing, web designing are the new skills we acquired in the duration of the activities for this Cyberfair project.

The different activities we have performed helped strengthen our self-esteem. We also gained valuable lessons in interpersonal relationships both inside and outside the classroom, lessons that were very helpful to us during the times when we were searching for the information to be placed in the web page.

These lessons helped us muster the confidence and the courage to ask and interview these successful entrepreneurs. The Internet has helped us to be efficient in the use of the Web. It taught us a lot of things and gave us access to the information superhighway.

The project has provided the school community and the students with the motivation and sense of awareness. We are filled with a yearning to know and discover the historical wealth of our beloved province Antique.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

Our Cyberfair project opened up a lot of opportunities for us to meet and interview several people who possess first hand knowledge about our topic, as well as the key players in our community: the local authorities and officials. Likewise, we acted as the ambassadors to our province of which we are, needless to say, very proud of. It was a tremendous experience for all of us to be able to represent our province and to show to all, that ANTIQUE is one of the best places on earth. Naturally, we are honored to be counted as part of this worthy endeavor.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Before we did this project, we had a hard time deciding on what field or category we will use to create a webpage. Later, we agreed to work on Business and Community Organization. In this category we could feature how the local businesses help uplift our economic status. Aside from this, their success story would inspire our fellow Antiqueños. This had been a great help especially to all Antiqueños to be more united.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

Our project wouldn’t have been completed without the aid of the following people on our community: Mrs. Jocelyn E. Remonte our Technology and Livelihood Education Teacher, who encouraged us to join this prestigious contest and provided us necessary materials and useful information needed in our project; Mr. Gaudencio C. Riego, Principal IV. Our ever-supportive parents and member of our family, who inspired us with full financial, moral and spiritual support that encouraged us to move forward even in the midst of crisis; the Antique National School Community, especially the IV-Diamond students , whom we asked for ideas and suggestions for the improvement of our project; and GOD Almighty, the Creator of all things Whom all knowledge, unconditional love and infinite wisdom belong. But of course we would like to acknowledge the unsung heroes of our province. Without their cooperation during the interviews we conducted, we wouldn't have been able to accomplish what he had.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

With the results of our research, surprisingly we have found out that our province has a lot of business that could cater to the needs of people to augments family income And still more places are waiting to be discovered. We learned to value our province and to be proud of the cultures and aspects that embody the essence of being an Antiqueño

We also realized the importance of the Internet these days. It allows us to communicate with other people around the world and through it we can promote our province.

Most importantly, during the course of this activity, we have acquired a sense of camaraderie and esprit de corps. This leads us to develop the kind of team chemistry that our project just needs. Our work also impressed upon us the need for time management and resourcefulness. The lessons learned here would surely be valuable to the team even after we leave school.
