2. Summary of Our Project

In this theme plan research, it is known that there are various snack foods categories with attractive packages, and all sizes of food wholesale and retail stores are distributed everywhere. Referring to the self experience, the group members interview in the retail stores repeatedly and hold theme class meetings, to further understand that the snack foods in villages are closely related to the local economic development situation, and the low economic development level is the main reason of snack foods flushing. In the interview and publicity of this activity, we learn not only that the snack food is a scenery line in rural market, but also that they have endless harms to teenagers. Besides, we understand that we have the responsibility and obligation to contribute to the economic development of our hometown, and eliminate the potential hazards of snack foods fundamentally, to make the snack foods as the necessities of our lives.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:more than 50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:2-3

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:2-3

E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):

1 server, 60 clients, 10M fiber optic access the Internets, Windows XP operating system. The participating students all came from rural area and they had no computer at home. They usually used their spare time to complete their tasks in the student computer room while the instructors spent their weekends and break time on the tasks.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

The interviewee in this project were mainly students around us, which is much more convenient for us, and the process of interview is smooth; but during this activity, the greatest difficulty we met with was that most of computers in our school were wireless internet, and slow internet speed, and it was difficult to upload data; during the process of collecting, arranging and making webpage, network off-line often occurred, which wasted a lot of time. In order to solve the problem, we took two main measures: the first measure was that we input the compiled information in Word and uploaded to the internet; the second measure was that we avoid the concentrated internet used time period. Therefore, we usually uploaded data during night self-study time, in which way the problem was solved. Secondly, some design could not be independently completed in technique; therefore, we utilized the spare time to consult to our teacher. Thirdly, we missed self-study at night because we had to arrange data in the machine room, which resulted in the misunderstanding of some course teachers, but we proved with outstanding scores that we had not missed our classes; we paid attention to the webpage making as well as our study.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

We have finished our theme research; during the process of research and publicity, our classmates have realized that the snack foods have advantages as well as disadvantages for us, and they can selectively consume the snack foods and apply the conclusion of the activity to the learning classrooms, with an endless enjoyment!

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

In the classroom teaching in the school, what we learn is elementary knowledge. When conducting this monographic study, what we conduct was practical activity; we associated the knowledge we learned with practice, and we combined the topic related to snack foods we researched to the related course content such as Food Safety Law, morality, integrity, treasure of life, justice, obligation undertaking in the “Ideology and Morality” course, to make the abstract knowledge more vivid and materialized. It cultivated the learning interest of students as well as improved their scores; more important is, with the combination of the activity and learning, the social responsibility of the students was enhanced and the social practice ability was built up. Although we encountered with some difficulties, we learned treasured knowledge that we cannot learn from classroom; in conclusion, the activity benefited us a lot.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

Software :photshop 7.0 Image processing Microsoft WORD 2003 Write documents Internet Explorer Search information on line Microsoft Excel Edit spreadsheet data ACDSee Browsing photos CISS online work instruction Hardware: Computer Organize information and webpage making SD Card Collect pictures and copies of data Digital Camera Take pictures during interview

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

This is our first time to participate in such kind of exploration activity, and we felt great responsibility. With the identity of “little reporter” and “promotion envoy”, with the spirit of solidification and cooperation, we utilized the Sundays and extracurricular activities, we performed survey and publicity to the snack bars near schools as well as the little supermarkets in and around Daqinggou. We also conducted timely collection and arrangement to the interviewed materials, and developed theme class meeting with these materials, to make the students pay attention to the hazard the snack foods bring to us when enjoying the delicious taste of them, and cultivated the students to care about the society and the responsibility awareness of contributing more to the development of hometown. In this practice activity, we knew that the activity cannot be completed by individual power, and only team division, good cooperation and mutual trust can help us to achieve the final victory.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

We have finished our theme research; during the process of research and publicity, our classmates have realized that the snack foods have advantages as well as disadvantages for us, and they can selectively consume the snack foods and apply the conclusion of the activity to the learning classrooms, with an endless enjoyment!

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

In this activity, the holders of several stalls near our school provided us with places for researching and photographing. They also introduced the total trend of snack foods in recent years; our class teacher and the teachers in Education Department provided us with time and platform. All the members in this monographic study plan want to express our thanks to you! Thank you for your kind effort for the monographic study plan, and we will achieve success!

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

During the process of this monographic study project, besides some computer techniques, we deeply realized that the importance of applying the knowledge and participating in social practice. Before this activity, we just enjoyed the attractive snack foods, which were our favorites. With the development of the activity, we were surprised to find that the snack foods have their advantages as well as disadvantages. When enjoying the delicious taste of the snack foods, we should also pay attention to the harm they bring to us, and prevent the snack foods to harm the health and prevent the foods sold in small stalls to harm the society; during the process of the activity, we learned the importance of teamwork and cooperation as well as the importance of the sense of social responsibility; we learned the “dialectical and two-side” viewpoint to look at issues, which means we should observe the positive side as well as the negative side of an issue. It benefited me a lot.
