It is a gritty-soiled hillside in Hexagrams Mountain, Shetou town, where sunshine is ample.

Taiwan Local Pineapple, also called Hillfoot Pineapples, is grown in Shanjiao Road, Shetou town. Its season lasts from June to November. It tastes juicy, sweet and sour, and it gives out a pleasant aroma. Pear shape, yellowish white flesh, and tender texture, Pearl Guavas taste the sweetest among all the other kinds of guavas. It grows all year round, but its quality is best in winter. The LOHO Sock Tourist Factory is ten minute walk away from our school. It is the very first socks tourist factory. It combines both educational and recreational functions, presenting to the guests from different places a complete development of footwear in Shetou town.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

It's really important to learn how to organize the time schedule in order to meet the deadline for various activities. Besides, learning how to cooperate with groups is also needed.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

I am really honored to take part in helping teacher Miao Xuan with planning the activity of entering cyber fair competition. Seeing everyone in school so devoted and cooperative, and also seeing students learn some practical and life experience knowledge, I feel it is a rare chance and a valuable experience.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

The local special goods of Shetou in this research project included guava, hosiery and pineapple, which made the project colorful and alive. We visited the pineapple fields, guava farms, pineapple cake factories and LOHO Sock Factory, and we also took part in the annual Hosiery & Guava Festival. Thanks to this competition, we learned from the real experience and had deeper insights about the local special goods and our hometown. In this research, we acquired the skills to collaborate with one another and showed our best teamwork.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

There are two computer rooms with 69 computers in total available for students. There are one Nature and Science E Classroom, one English E Classroom and 14 Interaction Classrooms in the school. The school offers 36 laptops for all the staff and students. It also provides the teachers and students with loc

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

Every time I lead groups of students to enter the cyber fair competition, I take them with the hope that they can learn something different through it rather than being bound to school convention and textbook framework. Getting a firsthand experience to replace lifeless words opens up new horizons for students on learning. Different from the monotony of the subject, this activity helps the students to see things from a different set of eyes. They hunt –they re-interpret the usual things in country life. On the hunting journey, other than gaining knowledge, most importantly, I hope they can see that people are diligent, unafraid of challenges and innovation and that further takes them to find the spiritual treasure.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Seeing everyone in school so devoted and cooperative, and also seeing students learn some practical and life experience knowledge, It is a rare chance and a valuable experience. The community and the school are willing to turn the relationship to be more united.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

Lately, Shetou Local Council, Farmers’ Association, and government institutions in Zhanghua County are all aiming to promote the individuality of local industry. Footwear, guavas, and pineapple related products often make the news, and that makes us little explorers more interested. Shetou Local Council cooperates with our school to enrich the content of our curriculum by adding courses on the recognition of rice culture when we reach fifth grade. We learn rice growing related knowledge. The new course Farming Life for this semester really helps us to get to know more about the agricultural products in our own country –Zhanghua County.
