Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

We live in Pingtung County, the southernmost county in Taiwanm.Pingtung City is the most populous city in Pingtung County. Dawu Mountain in the east, Gao Ping River in the west. The climate here is hot in summer and warm in winter. There are many parks, surrounded by greenery. Here is called Healthy Cities in Taiwan. We are happy to live in this city.

2. Summary of Our Project

In recent years, industry and technology is developing very fast. Large number of industrial waste water, domestic sewage, etc ... Untreated, the inflow in the Wan Nian Creek area.Clear water gradually becomes Wuhei stench, so that all the residents not close.

This river is also known as Wan Nian stink.We hope that this experimental study, the water through the filter algae, with sunshine and air, so that contaminated water becomes clear.

The experimental results provide the county government to improve the water quality of the river Wan Nian.Let the rivers no longer stench, back to life.

We often use the school's wireless network.Query information and pictures.We also make use of line and FB contacts and communication We learn web design and photo editing.Together we set creations, happy and full of knowledge.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

Because we belong to different classes, classroom time can not come together to discuss. Can only be done during lunch time to discuss and make reports.

Create web pages more difficult part, but we and teachers learn together, and then modify the error.Together we overcome difficulties.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

We visited the community to understand the urban environment. Stream pollution status, urban sewage treatment, let us know the impact of water pollution on the ecosystem.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Internet use than the traditional way of teaching learning more efficient. You can make the courses more interesting and enhance learning efficiency. Internet to make our lives more convenient, but also much to learn pipeline and diversified information, let us know in the world, not far from Dover community network, let us broad vision.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

We use video cameras, digital cameras and experimental equipment. Study, learn to use the water quality measurement device. And use image editing software, web authoring software and instruments editor, describes the work completed. These tools are provided by the school, library books, so that we can check a lot of information about the ecological environment. Give us a great help.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

We visited the people along the way, they are very kind to us and told us many interesting stories about the river. Let us know in our living environment, we also told them that the purpose of our study, I hope to provide residents a new concept, the use of green algae, changing water quality, care homes, we are Environmental Protection Ambassadors.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

We use the findings to provide government agencies and nearby residents, improve sewage approach. Let the people know the importance of water conservation, ecological damage caused by water pollution, through this study, we have become ambassadors.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

Thank EPA, thank residents, school teacher gave us a lot of guidance, in experimental studies we learned teamwork, we completed the work and study together, feeling good!

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

We grew up in Pingtung City, often passing through the downtown Wan Nian Creek. Before Wannian Creek is irrigated agricultural land, but environmental factors changes, bringing together all kinds of sewage, water Wuhei stench was Known as 'Wan Nian stink.' In recent years, the renovation of the river finally did as before filled with the smell, a few days of work and interviews collected this water, we saw a lot of water hyacinth and hibiscus, you can also see some fish and ducks swimming in the water, but still smell a little odor. Hope for the future, you can see more clear and there is no smell of the river, allowing the river to become one of the city's beauty.
