Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Ershui Township, Changhua County is in the southern foothills of Baguashan and southeast corner of Changhua County. The east of the county connects to Mingchian Township, Nanout County, the south connects to Jhuoshuei River, the north connects to Tianchung Township, and the west connects to Xizhou Township. Viewing it from the sky, the field is vast, the ecological environment is great, the air is fresh, and the scenario is very beautiful. Thus, it is known as the “Great Mountain, great water, and great Ershui”. It owns many attractive tourist spots. For example: 1) Babao Canal, one of the top three canals; 2) the famous Mr. Lin Temple; 3) the dream Snail River inkstone of calligraphers; 4) the very popular bike routes; 5) Songboling – home of macaque monkeys; and many more. People are looking forward to seeing the future development of Ershui Township. Songboling is in the opposite direction of Ershui Junior High School, so it takes quite some time to get there.

2. Summary of Our Project

Songboling, located deep inside Ershui Township, is the hometown of macaque monkeys. In recent years, since some tourists like to feed macaque monkeys, macaque monkeys are losing their abilities of foraging for food. Additionally, some tourists maliciously tease macaque monkeys, which triggered their wild nature and attack tourists. Therefore, we need to promote the conservation of the macaque monkeys in order to correct the attitude of macaque monkeys toward human.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:more than 50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:more than 6

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:more than 6

E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):

Our Computer and Internet Access: The Office of Teaching Affairs provided us with hardware devices, such as laptops, DV, digital cameras, and other hardware. The office also provided us with software, such as Word2010, NAMO 2008, and Photocap 6.0, so that we could do the work more conveniently.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

In the beginning, we were not familiar with the Cyberfair project and had no idea how to start, so we did not pay too much attention on it. Later, we found out that the Cyberfair project was not an individual project, which required teamwork, so we changed our mindset. During the process, small problems were encountered occasionally, but we were a team, so we needed to find a solution for each problem and couldn’t give up. Even though we didn’t have much time, we worked during lunch break and holidays. I believe teamwork is more effective than individual work.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

During the Cyberfair project, we learned valuable experiences. We learned computer software techniques and interview skills. We realized the importance of teamwork and the difficulties of producing the Cyberfair project. The most important, we learned that we should never give up. The participation of Cyberfair project is one of the most beautiful memories to us in junior high school. I would like to thank all the members. Without you, we could not make it. Also, I would like to thank our advisors. We have seen all your hard work.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Language: Data analysis, choice of words, sentence making, and modifying and finishing essays are the integral parts of language learning. They help students to use the language ability in daily life. Social Studies: We interacted with people, learned how to view the world with diverse viewpoints, listened to voices of different roles, and cared things around us. Through the project, we learned more about Ershui Township, Changhua County, to become good citizens of Ershui Township. Integrated activities: We learned to respect each other and the importance of unity. Nature and life technology: We advocated the “three-no” principles to tell people to stop teasing macaque monkeys but care them instead. Arts and humanities: The website configuration and creative added the sense of art to the website. With the talents of our school’s students, the drawing of monkey and green field on the pages made the appearance of entire website much prettier and more attractive. Information and life technology: The computer is an indispensable tool to Internet today. The Cyberfair project and the website production helped us know more about computer.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

Our topic was Monkeys on the Green Field. It introduced the conservation of the monkey. We approached it with presentation, volunteering, participating activities, running propaganda, and afterthought sharing. We would like to make people understand that we need to give our love and care in order to provide macaque monkeys a perfect home.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

We spent a lot of time for this Cyberfair project. It tested our endurance, perseverance, and cooperation, and helped us learn more and gain more. We sacrificed our normal lunch break and holiday time to work on the Cyberfair project at school, and the teachers sacrificed their valuable time to tirelessly contribute to the project too. This experience will be very helpful to our future.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

The project can be completed, We have to thank to very many people, especially the teacher - Zheng Dong Chen . He spent a lot of time to teach us knowledge about the macaques monkeys. He also led us to the place where the macaques live and to understand the ecological macaques. He also provides a number of information and how to observe macaque monkeys books.Thank you, teacher Zheng Dong Chen.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

When we were working on the macaque monkey website and the Cyberfair project, we have wondered at our purpose of doing it. However, we kept on telling ourselves that it would help us a lot in the future. This motivation kept us going and finishing the project. We experienced the secret and novelty of the nature and breathed fresh air when we visited the field. The questions motivated us to learn, implement, and observe. It grew our positive attitude toward Ershui Township.
