Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Cangxi is the county under the jurisdiction of Guangyuan City in Sichuan province. It is situated to the northern of Sichuan Basin ,with a population of about 77 million. Cangxi county was elegantly called the ' Plain Town in Northern Sichuan” in ancient times and is nobly named'Town of Green Pear ' today.

2. Summary of Our Project

The theme is Sichuan pickled cabbage in this study, our main task is filming, interviews, data collection, collation and research to the origin, value, production, use and other aspects of pickled cabbage, meanwhile we obtained the support of Cangxi county government departments, school and community, so we got a lot of materials. We tried to use our sites to reflect Sichuan pickled cabbage, to study on the relationship between the people's eating habits and the development of the productive forces in my hometown . We always adhere to the 'participation, solidarity' spirit, eventually we hope to share the unique charm of Sichuan pickled cabbage and the local conditions and customs of Sichuan with the friends all over the world through this contest, sharing our processes and happiness !

Our school can access the internet, there are 2 tutors and 2 students have Internet among the 6 players, the overall speed is quickly. But the school network can not be used all the time, we must surf online in the spare time.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

1, Our surfing time is limited, we can only surf online in the computer room after school. So we make arrangements ahead of time,sorting out data in advance to improve the efficiency. Of course, we also asked the teacher to help us to do some, such as the web page making, photo processing, and works upload. 2, We are not very familiar with the web page making. We asked the teacher to teach our method of making web page, and don't hesitate to ask the teacher for advice. Sometimes we also can find the method on the Internet. 3, Activity funds is not enough. We need some expenses to interview outside, such as transportation costs, these costs can not apply to the parents, we're frugal about our living expenses, and some teachers sponsored some for us, so that we successfully completed the relevant work. 4, The time is sufficient. Because we have to learn our courses, and there are some other community activities, so the time is limited. so we make full use of the weekend.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

Through our interview, we deeply feel the pickled cabbage is just like the mountain and water in our hometown, it is like peas and carrots, so we choose the pickled cabbage as the research subject, the main purpose is to understand relationships between sauerkraut and life, also let people and the community have a deeper understanding for the pickled cabbage, in fact we have done. In the development of this project, we all understand the unity is very important, as long as we get together, many things will be successful. Although our strength is very weak, work is also very naive, we have delivered the 'participation and solidarity' to the people around. For months, to achieve our common goal, we lost a lot, but we got more!

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

The school's teaching and students' learning is not only the 45 minutes in class, it is also including the extracurricular practice.Genuine knowledge comes from practice, which is very important. Let the students become the master of learning. This activity is the best lesson for the vocational school students.We are mostly the tourism professional students, and this kind of practice is never experienced. In the actual operation of the process, the students not only showed great enthusiasm, but also gained learning experience that had never been learned before. Under the guidance of the teacher, the first attempt to combine knowledge and extra-curricular knowledge in the classroom, especially in order to finish the web page making, the 4 students learned a variety of skills in information resource integration. Although many places are still not mature, the important is that they understand: the book knowledge can be rewritten, how to discover and create new knowledge.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

In the interview activities, we have learned the skills to communicate with people, how to communicate with people heartily, earnestly and sincerely , of course, the preparation work must be done before the interview. Learn the method and principle of focusing, aperture in the process of photography. We have learned the methods and skills of arrangement and classification of archives in the collected materials, refining theme, planning activities, learned how to cooperate with team members in the activities, we also learned to process the information with computers in Webpage activities, applying information technology means to submit the transaction processing method. In the activity, we adhere to the 'participation and solidarity' theme, each member are in spite of personal consequences, each member shares their joys and sorrowsare in spite of personal consequences , the team interest is above personal interests, give full play to their strengths in the cooperation, and all of us learn to share resources and discuss solutions together, encounter the problems together, and give full play to everyone's sense of ownership, take the initiative to undertake the tasks assigned by team positively.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

In this activity, we clearly recognize that each of us has to assume the role of ambassador, not only to study the pickled cabbage history, value and use, but also to share the research results with students and the community of people, we are all part of the community, so we spend a lot of time in the normal course of life. Each team member obeys the team organization, division of labor and management in practice. The team member also contributes their role in their corresponding positions.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

In the process of research activities, we noted whether all cited information relates to intellectual property rights, so we pay great attention to the thematic originality in the whole project. In the process of all interview, we all have the interviewee’s agreement, whether we can record the content of the interview and photos in the Web page. The reference books and websites should be agreed by the copyright person and listed in detail.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

This kind of feeling is good for us that we can enjoy a reporter role. 1,We have a more comprehensive understanding of Sichuan pickled cabbage. We have had the pickled cabbage many times, but all of us know a little about the origin of pickled cabbage, production method, the value of such knowledge, through this research, we not only fully understand Sichuan pickled cabbage, but also realize the pickled vegetable culture. 2, This is a very good professional practice lesson. In the activity, we learned how to make a web page, use computer to process information, and learn to communicate and cooperate with people.It is a professional practice lesson for those of us who read vocational tourism major, to consolidate the theoretical knowledge, and even learned a lot that has never been learned in class.
