Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Pingle ancient town is about 18km southwest of Chengdu city of Sichuan province. It is the biggest designate town of Honglai city. It is the country-level AAAA scenic spot. Traced back to the ancient times, the town was formed as early as West Han Dynasty(150 B.C.) with a history of 2000 years. Green hills and a lush bamboo, Baimo river flowing through Pingle old town from west to north, as beautiful as a painting. Many ancient trees stand two banks of the river, just like clouds cover the earth from afar.

2. Summary of Our Project

Through collecting folk songs for the town's scenic attractions of the development of booming tourism industry, in practice investigation of Management office and social visits to think of innovative theme, students objectively reflect their true thoughts, focusing on participation and the process to get the purpose of the exercise in the social practice. The new high school curriculum reform attaches great importance to student’s practical ability and comprehensive practical activities are listed as compulsory courses, in which the core curriculum is research study and social practice. Students in the active studies, hands-on process synthetically use existing knowledge and experience to solve problems, learning how to learn, developing human spirit and scientific literacy. High School IT network fundamentals is the module of elective courses, in hands-on process, increasing knowledge, improving the basic skills of network infrastructure. With the rapid development of tourism in the ancient town, attracting many tourists, the local government continues to invest a lot of money to build ' Water County in Western Sichuan' un famous feature spot of ancient town, where we can live, learn and work in a clean and beautiful environment in the new development of ancient culturel to understand that tourism development drives local economy, also enriching ourselves in the process of practice.

Our school has one e-lesson preparation office, 4 computer classrooms, 240 computers. It is convenient for student to use computer. School sets up 30M optical fiber broadband access

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

Difficulty in terms of time: high school students’ learning tasks are very tight, with self-study every morning, attending classes in daytime, self-study every evening, living very regular campus life. Though with very strong interest in participating in competition of website, but unfortunately time is limited, by guiding repeatedly of teachers, finally student complete the task of collecting folk songs.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

Perseverance, never give up is the attitude that should be owned by our high school students; no matter what difficulties we meet.It’s our first time for participating in this practical activity, confronting with a lot of difficulties and problems in the process. Teacher told us that 'With perseverance, never give up, stone can be carved into flower,' and we have great fun in the process of overcoming difficulties.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Although we learn IT network technology in first grade of high school, existing huge difference between theory and practice, under the patience helping of instructor, we make great progress from dealing with pictures, collating words to the final web design.

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

Use digital camera to take pictures, Use Photoshop and CorelDraw to produce images and format images, Use 17888 to make webpage, Use DV to feed video and audio file into computer, Use Scanner to scan photos

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

Through our practice survey and inquiry, introducing culture atmosphere of the ancient town Pingle to the outside world, play advocacy role for local tourism development.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

The development Pingle ancient town tourism undoubtedly plays a role in promoting the local economy, water country of western Sichuan - Pingle Ancient Town attracting more tourists. Our work is to better publicize the tourism resource of Pingle ancient town to the outside world.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

Qiangwu secretary of Pingle Scenic Area Management Committee and Chengcheng Cheng, Pingle town government staff offer free help for our interview. Our head teacher, Li Bin, compulsory explain the use of the camera. Our Chinese teachers Jun Tian help us modify text material.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

Through students’ active studies, hands-on process, student have been using synthetically existing knowledge and experience to solve problems, learning how to learn, developing human spirit and scientific literacy. In the hands-on process, student increase knowledge and master certain basic IT skills.
