Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Glove puppetry is one of the most vivid recollections of many Taiwanese’s childhoods. Glove puppetry, performed in the square of temple, in the countryside, on TV, even in theater and in broadcast program, is an important experience to our growths! During a long period of time from importation to innovation, “Taiwan glove puppetry” has been performed from countryside stage to national theater, international arena and finally it has become “national imagery.” During the period of information collecting from knowing nothing to realizing gradually, we cultivated interest in glove puppetry step by step. Now please follow in our steps to travel together in the world of glove puppetry.

2. Summary of Our Project

The glove puppetry, this traditional art, made a unique value of time. Since now, it has still attracted the new generation of young people to watch, and at last it was a miracle of Chinese traditional operas. Since the Ching Dynasty, the glove puppetry has become common. Now it has its own brand no matter in the puppets, songs and stages and puppeteers of talent come out in succession. This turned the traditional street art into the popular entertainment which suited both refined and popular tastes and for young and old alike. In the mid - 19 th century, the glove puppetry was flourishing. In this period of time, many puppeteers from Fujian or apprentices from Taiwan returned back to Taiwan and transplanted this art in the palm to this island. And the glove puppetry became popular in all walks of life. To this day, it becomes the most popular puppetry in China. Since then, the glove puppetry has been more developed and its performance styles have been more abundant, too. Through this research, we hope more and more people realize how this Taiwan local culture- the glove puppetry innovated, and let people around the world knows it.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

All our team members were under heavy pressure for this brand-new challenge and the frustration was also unavoidable. Nevertheless, as a member of the team, everyone encouraged each other and pumped ourselves up to hand in on time and got the motivation to go forward again. In order to catch up on, it was all in a day's work that we still worked in the school while others were on holiday, I still remembered the whole school was so dark that we couldn’t even see our hands, and a thrill went through us. From our efforts this time, we realized that “the more you study, the more wisdom you will grow in.' No matter how tough the process is, if only being diligent and holding on at the last, these efforts will be worthy.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

As an old saying goes: “No pains, no gains.” If someone wants to succeed, he should keep working hard constantly. Success is easy to achieve if only you keep working hard and doing great. On the contrary, without putting in a lot of effort to study, it will be a difficult achievement. In this world, a lot of people have their own dreams. However, few put them into practice. To reach your goals, you must accomplish it step by step. The tears and sweat will be the most precious crystal. And it is unique so that no one can replace but belongs to you only.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Different from learning style, we deeply understand characteristics of the local specialty via interview and analysis. We hope to enhance the application of information via guidance of project, upgrade doing research independently and applying multi-learning and teamwork. Then, we encourage more locals to carry out local humanities and environment. Promoting culture and applying network is a tool for expression. Do more meaningful things.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

“Creation is an ideal and transmission is a share.” Glove Puppetry is one of Taiwan’s culture assets, and a representation of “Taiwan’s imagery” according to Taiwanese’s online poll. Traditional glove puppetry nowadays combined various kinds of styles including the elements of modern popularity, the classical beauty and so on. That showed creativity and preserved heritage at the same time. And not only brought the trend of self-made puppets, but also made a combination with Taiwan local art of glove puppetry and their own creativity. This presented different features of glove puppetry and evolved Taiwan creative cultural industry. This reach is made by field reconnaissance and learning. We hope to let more people know the modern exquisite Taiwan glove puppetry by this opportunity

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

During the preparation of this global schools network contest, we learned that this project cannot be done by single person. To make this website well, we need to cooperate with each other and also learn to how to unify into a team. Just like assembling a puzzle, each piece can’t be missed. Different from previous short-period reaches, we found out that this project takes time to accumulate the effects for achieving our goals. “Fighting to the end is a great power.”

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

Through interviews and surveys, we had the chance to meet and interview the founder. This project hopes to make people today to cherish what they have and not to waste the resources given by the earth. Every sheet of paper deserves to be used meaningfully.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

As to group, “Conflict is a kind of communication which let our relation closer.” During the preparation of this contest, we learned many things cannot be done by single person. We need to cooperate and develop everyone’s capacity to make this webpage well. If our opinions are different, we must communicate with each other to find out the best solution without missing any details so that we can demonstrate the most perfect work in the end.
