1. Description of Our Community

Uzhur is relatively small city in a rural area of Krasnoyarski krai, Russia. The area is one of the biggest agricultural producers in Siberia exporting food products to the other parts of this huge territory. Located in the heart of southern Siberia Uzhur has more than 300-year-long history. Local people appreciate their heritage and work for better life in their community. Due to keeping agriculture as a basis for the local economy during quite long time the area managed to preserve a lot of elements of the traditional Russian rural lifestyle

2. Summary of Our Project

Our project is devoted to the city. Its goal is to exprore the diversity and beauty of the things that make our city unique. The group of students is doing the research to learn about street and public art in the city. We would like to present small pieces of art that make our community look special. We would like to draw the attention of both local people and guests to the small but remarkable traditional and modern art in the streets. We want to show the beauty of street decorations and tell about their meaning in our everyday life.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

There is not so much information on the topic on the local scale. We had to gether what we could little by little. As most of the participating students have not very advanced level of English it was quire a challenge for them to complete translation. Oh, an of course some of them had to become photographers wandering around the area and looking for the pieces of art.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

For our small rural school of English and Technology this is the Window to a bigger open world where we can feel really global and internationally involved staying far from other countries geographically. It's the way to be together with people of the world.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

To complete this projects students had to learn to be researchers, reporters, photographers, copywrighters and web designers. The project theme fits perfectly to the topics studied within History, World Art History and Fine Art classes at the state public school. The project certainly fits the theaching English standards. It is also related to the extra-carriculum school projects on local haritage studies. To complete this project students needed to use internet technologies to apply their knowledge and skills for a particular project. We belive that it helps a lot when young people can use what they have learnt to create something original and meaningful for other people

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

Talking about the tools that were used for project comletetion we can tell about computers with internet connection (about 6 in class and private ones at students' homes). To produce the images we used digital cameras and cell phone cameras. We took oral interviews, conducted a survey, searched information in books and on the internet. We chose Google Sites as a basis for our web sites because it is free and easily accessible. For most of our students it was their first experience in web development so we picked up a tool that is user friendly and easy to understand.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

Art is global. It is everywhere in the world impressing people with a huge variety of kinds and shapes and aesthetic experiences. But not only a few people have immidiate access to museums and art gallaries. Street and public art is something that is open to enjoy for anybody. This is something that makes any place different and unique showing its 'soul'. Raising a question of the street art meaning in our community, talking to people about it, asking their opinions we made a lot of people think about it.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Starting with involving people from our community in the dialogue about street and public art we we trying to draw people's attention to the community improvement issues. After the project is completed and evaluated on the school level we are going to make promote it in the acrticle in local pressand popular regional websites that are our partners. Since there is very little information on our area in the English sector of the Internet we are going to promote this project externally, for example adding a link to Uzhur webpage in Wikipedia.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

To show different opinions of the community members we asked local people to express their points of view on different aspects of the street and public art in the area. All of them volunteerd to help us gether the information. We are really grateful to everybody who participated.
