Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

We live in Tianmu, which is situated in Shilin District adjacent to Beitou District in Taipei City. Tianmu is famous for its scenic view, comfortable lifestyle, American schools, Japanese schools, European schools, and exuberant exotic atmosphere, which distinguish Tianmu from any other suburbs in Taiwan. In addition to the exotic atmosphere, Tianmu is also known for an abundance of various resources which include historical monuments such as Zhishan Rock; natural ecological parks, which are our superb holiday destinations; Tianmu Baseball Stadium, Tianmu Sports Park, and the stadium of the University of Taipei (former Taipei Physical Education College) where numerous large-scale international sports events take place to entertain us with thrilling sports competitions; department stores such as SOGO Department Store, Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Department Store, and Dayeh Takashimaya Department Stores, which has been around for years and have grown their roots in Tianmu; a wide selection of exotic cuisines which you cannot miss out; a combination of diversity and convenience which satisfy all of our requirements in daily life; the spacious Zhongcheng Road and Zhongshan N. Road which connect the entire Tianmu and the MRT Zhishan Station which makes access to Tianmu much easier. The mountainside Sanyu Elementary School is in proximity of many other schools. In combination with a wealth of learning resources in the surrounding area of the school, Sanyu Elementary School provides a more diverse and more exceptional learning environment. We sincerely welcome all to visit Tianmu, where your needs for dinning, recreation, and fun can all be fulfilled, and a trip to Tianmu promises you to bag home bounteous harvests.

2. Summary of Our Project

As members of the Sanyu Internet Team, we played the role of little guides during this project to lead everyone to visit Tianmu and introduce scenic attractions in Tianmu. As an important scenic attraction in Tianmu, Zhishan Rock enjoys diverse ecosystems, a fascinating history, routes for people to climb up the mountain for a healthy workout, and a profusion of landscapes and fossils which are evidences of evolution. These remarkable treasures not only allure nearby residents, but also make Tianmu an ideal holiday destination for plenty of Taipei City residents. Along with a large population of foreigners in Tianmu came with a wide selection of characteristic exotic dining restaurants in this suburb. We introduced a franchise Japanese ramen shop near the school so that visitors could experience the exquisite exotic dishes here. In addition, the classic Dayeh Takashimaya Department Stores is a famous landmark in Tianmu. With vibrant sports, education, and cultural activities, the Tianmu Baseball Stadium nearby offers a good place for community residents to exercise and the Tianmu Sports Park is where we usually go for recreational activities and exercises. We would like to introduce such nice places, all of which are within walking distance of our school, to people from all around the world. Everyone is welcome to visit, enjoy life, and have a good time in Tianmu with us.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:more than 50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:more than 6

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:more than 6

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

We have encountered some problems during the process of collecting information, on-site interviews and visits, and making the website. Originally, we thought it would be very easy to implement after the discussion. However, when we started a discussion, we found out that everyone had his or her own opinion, so it was very difficult to form a solution that could satisfy everyone. Moreover, when implementing it, we found an even taller wall blocking our way!

5. Our Project Sound Bite

Our participation in International Schools CyberFair could interduce our community,Tianmu.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

The subsequent school study tour set students on a journey of ups and downs in teamwork and division of labor. Some students were enthusiastic in taking the initiative to shoulder tasks when the project began while other students had a few trials and errors before determining which tasks suited them better. In the process of adjustments and exploration, students all experienced a lot and had personal growth. The situation gradually became favorable in the ensuing discussions at students’ rallies when an abundance of marvelous ideas were brainstormed. With regard to making webpages and learning the required techniques for drawing images, students improved from feeling bewildered initially to growing fonder of the new challenges. Although the final products were neither exquisite nor elaborate, they were evidences of students’ assiduousness and wholehearted commitment to the project. I believe that given more sufficient time, student would be able to produce higher-standard webpages with more comprehensive content.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

We use cameras, pen recorders and computers to complete our Cyberfair project. We think that the tools(from our school) we use all help us a lot. So we learn how to take pictures, how to interview peoples here, and how to summarize the informations of our projects.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

Our students did act as 'ambassadors' and spokespersons for our Cyberfair project. They live here for years,so they want to introduce the community to people of the world.By researching and visiting local attractions, they found lots of interesting things about history, shops and parks.what the students do is just tell the world'Tianmu is an ideal place for a city tour for tourists during the weekends'

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

we hope, through the study for the Cyberfair project, to have more understanding of the tourism spots and resources around our school and then introduce to the tourists interested in our area.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

Ramen shop staff, our school teachers offers many of Tianmu related message information to provide many answers to our doubts, to help us better understand the exploration areas and project.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

Most people think Tianmu is a rich community, full of high-class boutiques and shops with an exotic atmosphere; indeed, Tianmu, is also the greenest place in Taipei city. Everywhere is filled with green, including Chungcheng business circle, Tianmu Sports Park, Tianmu Park of Zhongshan N. Road Section 7, and the further Tianmu Ancient Trail, as well as Zhishan Ecological Park near MRT Zhishan Station. Tianmu business circle is indeed a green land. With its continuous development, it did not diminish the living quality of the neighborhood; instead, it brought in the diversity of recreational activities to the neighborhood residents and attracts lot of tourists. Additionally, there are twelve administrative districts in Taipei, and Tianmu is within the area of Shilin District, which owns a hot spring source of the Datun Volcano Group. For instance, the hot springs on Xingyi Road come from Longfeng Valley, also known as Dahuangzui, where Yong-he Yu has exploited sulfur in Qin Dynasty. Also, Tianmu business circle is close to Beitou hot spring and Shilin Night Market and leads to Yangmingshan. In addition to its own natural landscape and humanistic background, Tianmu business circle is an ideal place for a city tour for tourists during the weekends.
