Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Constanta is the oldest city in Romania. The first document dates from 657 BC the current place peninsula (and even under water today, opposite the Casino) formed a Greek colony called Tomis. The settlement was conquered by the Romans in 71 BC and renamed Constantiana after sister of Constantine the Great. In the XIIIth century Great Sea (the Black Sea as it was called then) was dominated by Italian merchants from Genoa who helped develop the city. Subsequently, Constanta declined under Ottoman rule and became a simple village of fishermen and farmers Greek Tatar horses and sheep. After the War of Independence (1877-1878) when Dobrogea became part of Romanian Kingdom, Constanta, the main port of the state, has increased continuously, and held that role until today.

2. Summary of Our Project

“Our highschool is trying to make a 3D photo project about our city, Constanta from Romania. Here we will post photosynths, panoramas and more exciting photos from our main touristic attractions. In the future we will try to develop the project 'Romania in 3D', post photos and why not videos with our beautiful country.”

The platform has several sections - Home, About, Gallery, Places, texts are written in English. Under GALLERY appear more views of the city of Constanta and 3D applications made in Photosynth.

E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):

Computer Lab is well equipped with infrastructure and Internet facility.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

Along with the students I was often put in the position to manipulate information for research. These activities are associated with specific skills to use information technology: to locate information and to select appropriate software applications, organize materials (sequentially) to evaluate the relevance of information and present them accordingly.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

The objectives considered: -Creating a platform for e-learning to support student progress; -Support for virtual tourism, one of the most powerful engines of development 3D Internet; -Building a virtual reality as a computer-generated simulation of a 3D environment in which users view and manipulate its contents; -Involving students in the development of virtual spaces that replicate real locations using Microsoft Photosynth and WIX.COM Communication was achieved both through the Contact section of the platform, and through dedicated project page on CREATION PLATFORM FACEBOOK YOUTUBE

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

We are fascinated by interactive applications as attractive design. Basically we are 'teleporting' you into another world, a world almost unreal. We view virtual reality as a computer-generated simulation of a 3D environment in which users view and manipulate its contents. Virtual tourism is one of the most powerful engines of development 3D Internet launched into several 'mirror worlds' virtual spaces that replicate real locations. The projects 'PHOTOGRAPHY HELPS PEOPLE TO SEE' provide authentic situations in real life contextualizing, learning activities and incorporate higher level thinking skills on important ideas. This approach allows the user to explore possibilities of integrating information technology projects and ICT.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

-Involving students in the development of virtual spaces that replicate real locations using Microsoft Photosynth and WIX.COM . Photosynth has useful online service to automatically create panoramic images both horizontally and vertically, for a complete and seemingly three-dimensional sphere by extracting visual information from multiple pictures that you have done in a particular place, but different positions. Socially integrated, all content can be shared on Facebook, Twitter or publicly posted on the official website Photosynth.net. Photosynth for Windows Phone is the panorama app that makes it easy and fun to capture and share interactive panoramas of the places, people, and events that are important to you.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

We started our project by looking for information about different locations. We interviewed different people, discussed with other students, parents and teachers. So, through this project we also made new friends. Every time we have got an interview we had to present our project first, our plans and purpose. People understood and cooperated when we explained them clearly what we wanted. Now we are planning to update it with new information and pictures.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

The platform has several sections - Home, About, Gallery, Places, texts are written in English. Under GALLERY appear more Constanta city panorama, and 3D applications made in Photosynth. PLACES: We created this part of the site to show you our trips around the whole world. Here we will add Panoramas, Photosynths, Photos and Videos from different places of the world. We will not add projects frequently so stay tuned. Communication was achieved both through the Contact section of the platform, and through dedicated project page on Facebook.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

Then began the effort: we needed time for visiting different locations and making the site, but we also had classes and other competitions. We wanted to continue this project and here we are. For us it was surprising to see that there were people who were interested in our work and on this occasion we want to give them thanks.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

Our research consisted of getting information from books, internet and from other people. We consider that what you hear from other people is more real than what you can find on internet or even in books. So we had to discuss with several people. At first we were a little shy and not really have the courage to ask, but with each interview we did better.By collaborating with so many people we learned to be more open, to talk freely with people who we didn’t know. We discovered that people in our community are very welcoming and it was a pleasant experience to collaborate with them. It was a pleasant experience for us, from which we learned many new and interesting things and we are ready to resume it anytime.
