1. Description of Our Community

Our school is located in Pingluo County of Ningxia. Pingluo County is located at the north of Yinchuang plain Ningxia Hui Autonomy Region.From Lian County in Xihan to Jingzhou and Dingzhou in Tang and Song, Xiongnu, Xianbei, Tujue, Dangxiang,etc live in Pingluo. Pingluo is critical for military affairs in the whole history. In ancient times, in the ancient battlefield, many invading and anti-invading wars happened. On 25 September 1949, Pingluo County is liberated and Pingluo County People Government is established. Qingshan park in Dawukou district of Shizhuishan, built in 1984, covers an area of 120 mu of land. It’s the biggest garden-style centre park in Dawukou district. There are 6000 trees in park, which become a venue for public entertainment.

2. Summary of Our Project

Nowadays, many folk art follows the growth of industrial culture and speeding rural urbanization, some intangible cultural heritage has disappeared and lost. By this topic, we will through the folk artists for the single-minded pursuit of sugar painting spirit and explore its culture. We hope through our special research, sugar painting will have better development in Ningxia region and the sugar painting art will enter into the world

Only in the computer lab we can use Internet in our school, school classes are not less and the problem of schedule, we only have to get to the Internet after school every afternoon, then every time campus is so quiet that only can hear the voice of our keyboard tapping

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

First, our schedule is very tight, class starts from 8:00 in the morning every day and finishes at 17:00, we are very tired in such a busy day, we can only come to the computer lab after five o 'clock and took night lessons again in 19:30. The second: the communication barriers. Sometimes we tidy our material every day in the school computer room, when we just finished tapping without storing, the computer crashed or network was broken. Sometimes it needs a long time to send the modified pictures to our website, we were waiting for hungry. Third: every time we go to interview the old woman, she seemed not to love to talk, we had to only slowly settle down to communicate with her until she was willing to accept our enquiry and interviews. We visited a total of five times to make our collection to the satisfied material.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

Looking back the experience along the way, we've gone through too much, in order to let more people know sugar painting, we took our made sugar painting to school for the students to watch and enjoy. At the same time, we also took use of spare time to tell the students sugar painting knowledge, teachers also used computer classes to introduce the sugar painting to students, there still some students also spontaneously join to promote sugar painting art. We hope that through our efforts, the sugar painting art can spread to every corner of the earth, behind us there are a lot of people helped. People who bring us hope, who support us, and maybe they didn't think they have done a very meaningful thing, but because of their participation, more people know and love sugar painting art.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

We take sugar painting artist Wang Shufen as the main line, protrudingly shows folk sugar painting culture, not only combines the field of history, geography, art, culture, computer and social subject that lets 'sugar painting' into the life, but also the joyful sugar painting expresses the people's yearning for a better life. What’s more, our own creation of sugar painting at home and everything can not be finished by a few people, around us there are many respected teacher and lovely classmates, and a lot of people supporting behind us. Along this way, we feel that if we have no good teamwork spirit and communication ability, we cannot act as the role of 'sugar painting propaganda ambassador'.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

We can spread folk sugar painting with local leaders is our honor. We play the role of 'sugar painting propaganda ambassador' which lets more people know folk sugar painting art, and also lets them understand folk sugar painting art that cannot be forgotten, and positively take actions to communicate folk culture. The old woman’s persistent to the folk sugar painting deeply infect us, we are happy with her.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Make us know more about Ningxia folk culture: In order to research, we interviewed the grandma Wang. Granny Wang is in Ningxia, she spent nearly 32 years long to make sugar painting who has played a role of 'Non heritage culture art disseminator'. She insists painting everyday, no matter how cold or hot the weather is, she is persistent that quietly spreading sugar painting art. Through this research, we know more about the sugar painting folk culture, we have the confidence to make our website content best, let more people through our website understand folk painting, propaganda sugar painting art with us, which makes it spread throughout every corner of the world. Understand the importance of folk culture: From the perspective of development of sugar painting art, the role of grandma Wang is a folk sugar painting communicator, for example, sometimes taught painting sugar-coated figurine to neighbor's children or onlookers in Green Mountain park....... All of this is in order to develop the sugar painting culture.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

In the production of research, through the communication with grandma Wang, we see everything grandma had done for the inheritance and development of Ningxia sugar painting art, which lets us more understand the importance of conservation and development of Chinese folk art. And we have a deeper understanding of the folk sugar painting art. In fact, everyone try our best for the cultural heritage, our hearts will be more ray of sunshine. Let's cheer for grandma Wang, so for the folk sugar painting art!

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

When we met Wang Shufen, we found her temper is a little strange, what more surprised us is the wonderful 12 animals of Chinese zodiac made by her, we more admire that she can insist on more than 30 years to make sugar painting, we with curiosity and love for the sugar painting. In order to better inherit sugar painting art, we begin to understand its artist --- Wang Shufen. In this webpage finishing, by the power of the international network exposition, the Chinese folk culture is showed to the outside, which lets more people in Ningxia have more understanding on sugar painting and take mutual concerns, the Chinese folk culture can be continuous. We hope sugar painting art can make extraordinary splendor of light, spreading to every corner of the world.
