2. Summary of Our Project

The Philippines is considered as a third world country because it is behind in terms of economy and technology, as compared to other Asian countries, namely Korea and Japan. The citizens consider their leaders to be more on the negative side, but we can change that perception. We want to show you that leaders also have good actions, and that they can also be great models to us. The purpose of this project is to give awareness about the skills a great leader can have. It can also inspire the youth and gain information about the leaders who contributed a lot in the community. The administration, faculty, employees, and students of Saint Louis University with the government officials and representatives from the religious community and other educational institutions witnessed the investiture ceremony of Fr. Jessie M. Hechanova, on August 20, 2005. He is well known as a CICM and the sixth President of Saint Louis University. He is also the first Filipino citizen to hold the highest position in the University. His slogan, 'A Mission to Transform,' made a great impact in the University. Fr. Hechanova inspired us to know and understand what we can do to make a great change in our community. Our team will conduct an interview with the President of Saint Louis University to gather information about his works that made a difference in the school community. The students will be directly affected by this because they will conduct the interview. The citizens and the community are also affected because this project can inspire the people to be great leaders in the future. Lastly, the CICM is the institution that helped him make his endeavors possible. Interviewing the President helped us clearly understand on how we, in our own meaningful ways, can change the community.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

We faced a number of problems during our site making, and one among these challenges was lack of time. We needed more time for preparations, gathering of information, and overall process of designing the webpage. We were given an hour from Monday to Thursday, but it was not enough. We had to come up with the least period of time to accomplish a procedure, then make sure that the outcome would be satisfactory. To solve this problem, we sacrificed a portion of our lunch break to continue working on it. We also scheduled some meetings during Saturdays. Aside from those, the entire team broke down into groups to take charge of a specific step. Second was the lack of information. We had difficulties regarding the unavailability of information about our subject due to the data about our topic being numbered. As a solution, we scheduled an appointment for a personal interview. The third problem concerns the Internet access. In the process, we were delayed due to the slow and sometimes, lack of Internet connections. The usage of computer units was not a problem, but once we opened a certain website, the Internet connection appeared to be processing slowly. The solution for this problem was for the team to bring pocket wifis and broadband connections. Each member also brought their own laptops and phones for reference. Lastly, we were also problematic over the scheduling of our interviews. It was difficult to allot a time wherein the subject and members of the team were free, because of the fact that he is a very busy man. As a possible solution, we used social media. We prepared a list of questions that may be asked through Skype or Yahoo. Aside from personal interviews, we also conducted interviews with the help of Internet connections.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

'The world lives by a give and take relationship; unite and we are united, inspire and you will find inspiration.'- We participated to become a part of a strong bond that could unite individuals, and while we try to do so, we also do our best to mend the bond between us that could lead to a healthy relationship in which we find our own inspiration while inspiring others.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

The school’s curriculum system allows us, the students to enhance our technological skills. Having access to computers, the school challenges us to learn more and apply whatever we have learned in our daily life. Our Cyberfair project addressed two of the National Educational Technology Standards (NETS) for ages 14-18, namely to design a website that meets accessibility requirements and to model legal and ethical behaviors when using information and technology by properly selecting, acquiring, and citing resources. Some content standards for English were also addressed, namely to be able to speak and write well.

The project is beneficial because we have learned the strategy of our chosen leader, and the qualities of a good citizen. Leadership, public speaking, and people smart are some of the skills we learned. We were also able to master our intellectual skills and craft our socializing skills. Our views about criticism and negativity have changed because these newfound skills made us take the roots of prejudice since it helps us build who we are for the future. Many group concepts have also been practiced while accomplishing this project. We have given our own contributions by sharing our ideas.

To understand better diplomacy and international issues, one must be aware so as to provide solutions. We had learned about the leadership of Fr. Hechanova, CICM, and became ambassadors by gaining information.

We discovered the value of leadership. In our school, we try to make our system democratic and fare. With this, we believe a group with a just and responsible leader can promote innovation, teamwork, and cooperation.

In our generation today, we prefer the Internet for effective teaching and learning rather than the traditional method, because it contains a lot of information from different sources, and it saves time and also making work a lot easier.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

a) Laptop We used this particular device for the essential tasks that we had to perform in our project like creating and saving our work and connecting to the internet.

a1) Microsoft Word 2010 We used this software for writing text that was input in this website. a2) Weebly We used Weebly as a website maker and host of this website. a3) Safari, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox We used these web browsers mainly for web creation and as a site tester. a4) iMovie, Windows Movie Maker, Serif MoviePlus We used these to edit the videos posted. a5) YouTube, Google Maps We used YouTube as host of our videos and maps. a6) Adobe Photoshop Creative Suite 6 We used this software to edit photos with permission.

b) Internet Through the Internet, we were able to gain a more well-rounded picture and a better understanding of our chosen topic.

c) Portable Hotspots These devices were used so that we could connect to the internet to gather some information about the city of Baguio and pieces of information about Rev. Fr. Jessie Hechanova and his works. These devices are convenient because they are accessible and handy. They can be used wherever you are.

d) Camera This device made it possible to take some pictures and videos of our team for this project and it was also necessary when we were gathering data about our subject, Rev. Fr. Hechanova, for it was what we used for taking pictures and video clips of him and at the same time, the contributions he made to our university and society.

e) Voice Recorder We used the recorder for recording the introduction of each of us for our video presentation, specifically the opening.

f) Video Camera We used the video cam, aside from the camera, during the interview with our subject, Father Jessie.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

We acted as the representatives by conducting the field work ourselves. The interviews and other data gathering processes directly involved us as students which further enhanced the credibility of our project both in and with our subjects.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

The project helped identify a man with outstanding attributes, worthy of making him more known to the people within our locality. It recognized his characteristics, allowing him to be more acknowledge and widely approachable to those wishing to know him both as a priest and as an individual. It encourages other leaders to be more involved and to reach out farther than where they are without asking for anything in return from those they have helped.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

The project enabled us to talk to different people with the aim of collecting information, but further than that, it allowed is to see their insights and thoughts on our subject and to have a common goal, that being one to show the characteristics that make Rev. Fr. Jessie M. Hechanova a true local leader.
