Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Antique is a province of the Philippines located in the region of Western Visayas where it is subdivided into 18 municipalities. The province's capital, San Jose de Buenavista, is located in the western portion of Panay Island. Its current congressman is Paolo Javier, son of the current governor - Exequiel Javier, and Rhodora Cadiao is its vice governor. The province is famous in celebrating the Binirayan festival which started in San Jose in 1974 by the late Gov. Evelio Javier, this is a week-long festival that includes colorful street parades, beach shows, plaza concerts, a beauty contest and trade fair.

2. Summary of Our Project

Evelio B. Javier is a man who has done so much, not only for the people of Antique but for the entire filipino nation. He is a man of great dignity for he has fought for justice and democracy. He has never forgotten to give something back, especially to his community. He once became the governor of Antique and brought freedom and peace to the place. His life serves as an inspiration to the younger generations and the next generations to come. His story is what our team will give justice to, we pay tribute to a hero.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

Since we belong to the Science Technology and Engineering Curriculum, there are a lot of demands to over time. Our class schedule is quite hectic and time was really our biggest adversary in doing our project. Aside from this, the many activities that we join in school also take up much of our time. Thus, we only had limited time to work and the only chance we could do the project was after the class hours since we don’t have any free or vacant time on our schedule. Also, we had trouble acquiring the information regarding our subject that we need to work on that during weekends. We also had problems on how we can distribute and divide the work in order to finish the project on time.

We also encountered problems with the pictures that we used. Some pictures were blurred, some were misplaced. Some were even accidentally erased in the computer files. Yet despite of all the complications we had encountered, we managed to finish our work on the deadline and that’s what really matters the most.

Cooperation and teamwork were vital in the task, not to mention patience. We also thank our dearly teachers and our classmates who showed their willingness to help.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

One's dream should not perish with the death of the dreamer. Like the torch of Olympus in ancient Greece, it shall go to willing hands, because in the words of Ninoy Aquino ' courage, like cowardice, contaminates'

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

This CyberFair project involves activities which require the integration of our learning in the following fields: Research, Social Studies, Computer Education, English, and in journalism. In the journey in making this project, the team didn’t only gained knowledge about photo editing and web designing but also gained self-confidence and courage needed in our data gathering. This project has provided our school community and the students with the motivation and sense of awareness about the nationalism and determination of Evelio Javier to achieve his impossible dreams – to reach democracy.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

The activity for this Cyberfair project was an application of the things we learned in our research, computer education, and in journalism. The knowledge learned through the Internet, photo editing, web designing are the new skills we acquired in the duration of the activities for this Cyberfair project.

The different activities we have performed helped strengthen our self-esteem. We also gained valuable lessons in interpersonal relationships both inside and outside the classroom, lessons that were very helpful to us during the times when we were searching for the information to be placed in the web page.

These lessons helped us muster the confidence and the courage to ask and interview officials in the tourism office, the Historical Council, and other resource persons about the topic. The Internet has helped us to be efficient in the use of the Web. It taught us a lot of things and gave us access to the information superhighway.

The project has provided the school community and the students with the motivation and sense of awareness. We are filled with a yearning to know and discover the historical wealth of our beloved province Antique.

We were intent in letting the people know about the beauty of Antique. We felt like it was our responsibility to teach what we have learned. 'We learned to love our past, in all of its beauty and splendor.'

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

Acting as ambassadors who represent our school in accomplishing this project lead to interacting to some respected persona in our community where we didn’t only present our involvement in this CyberFair project and the opportunities it might give our school but also our desire to share inspiration from the late governor Evelio Javier. Before we did the project, there is a need for us to ask permission first from the family or relatives of our subject where we achieved for having the blessing from his eldest son, Gideon Javier.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Before we did this project, we had a hard time deciding on what field or category we will use to create a webpage. Later, we agreed to work on the Local Leaders and the first person who popped into our minds is our late governor and the Hero of our province, Evelio B. Javier. Because of this, we have gathered several information about him that we didn’t know before. Aside from this, this had been a great effect especially to all Antiquenos to be more inspired to the story of the man who had nothing but faith and dreams for all of us and the one who fought for the democracy of our country.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

Our project wouldn’t have been completed without the aid of the following people on our community: Mrs. Jocelyn E. Remonte, who encouraged us to join this prestigious contest and provided us necessary materials and useful information needed in our project; Mr. Gideon Javier for giving us the permission to publish a website about his late father; Mr. Gaudencio C. Riego, Principal IV and Mr. Teodoro Marzoña, Head Teacher VI Technology and Livelihood Education. Our ever-supportive parents and member of our family, who inspired us with full financial, moral and spiritual support that encouraged us to move forward even in the midst of crisis; the Antique National School Community, especially the IV-Diamond students , whom we asked for ideas and suggestions for the improvement of our project; and GOD Almighty, the Creator of all things Whom all knowledge, unconditional love and infinite wisdom belong.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

Legends are lessons. They ring with truth which led us to our democracy. The team explored every library, every website and asked everyone to gather information, data, opinion and statements which can be used in our project. We were amazed of what he has done for the achievement of our democracy and it gives us a chance to believe that even a normal person could become a hero. From there, his memory will continue to inspire and unite the Antiquenos and live with peace and harmony in their hearts.
