1. Description of Our Community

Jiange County located at the edge of Sichuan basin, south of Guangyuan city, has 57 townships, more than 670,000 people. Jiange County tourist resources is extremely rich, national scenic area 'the Sword Gate-Shu Road' runs through the region. The Sword Gate of Shu Road scenic spots includes ' Zhaohua ancient city, Niutou mountain, Sword Gate, Cuiyun Gallery and so on, now Guangyuan city and Hanzhong city jointly developed the Three Kingdoms cultural tourism. Sword Gate is the core components of ' Three Kingdoms of Shu Road' tourism and culture, which known as the world- renowned 'impregnable pass under heaven'. In Wenchuan of Sichuan '5.12' great earthquake, Jiange County is one of 18 extremely victimized areas, tourism facilities had suffered devastating blow. The livestock industry is the traditional pillar industry in Jiange county. In recent years, Jiange county animal husbandry is developing quickly, animal husbandry economy achieves leapfrog development, has become a pillar industry of the county's rural economy. Jianmenguan forest chicken is high-quality varieties in Jiange County, and it is sold outside the province. Chicken is kept in backyard or mountain, the chicken scope is wide, they can eat grass, branches and leaves of plants and seeds freely, so the products are without pollution. In recent years, Jiange County vigorously promotes standardization, large-scale farming, to promote the brand development strategy, created Jianmenguan chicken brand, registered the 'Jianmenguan' chicken brand, was named the seventh 'Guangyuan famous brand', and it has passed the quality identification of Sichuan Province geographical mark product certification. 9 chicken (Jia Qin) breeding professional cooperatives are built, the club memberships are more than 700.

2. Summary of Our Project

We are in the countryside, government promotes the 'Jianmenguan forest chicken' action, and every family can benefit from. As for chicken breeding, each family has experience. We hope that through our research, we can sum up breeding situation of the Jianmenguan chicken and get better prospects. We also hope that through our efforts, it can play the positive role for the promotion of Jianmenguan forest chicken.

We used separated computers to surf on the internet with ADSL2MB dial-up.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

The greatest difficulty we meet is data collection. Now the rural is developing to urban, a lot of rural people go to the city to work, traditional rural and agriculture is undergoing tremendous changes. Now the development of Jianmenguan forest chickens are generally distributed in the relatively mountain place with rare population, the traffic is inconvenience. Now the chicken is developing for the specialization, scale, technical requirements are higher, our interview is very difficult. In order to solve these problems, we get together to interview in the holiday. With distribution of school students, we let the students who live in the mountain introduce us to their home farms. At the same time, ask help to the government departments and the community. At the same time, to find Jianmenguan forest chicken promotional materials through newspapers, television, books and Internet. We also go to interview the farmers.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

Our families had ever kept chicken, but all of us gave up later, because we felt the foreign eggs and chicken are better. Then with the food safety is paid more attention, 'the native chicken' is popular. This reminds us that we should protect the environment and pay attention to ecological balance. Now a lot of things have returned to the previous place. For example: all of us begin to love wild herbs and vegetables.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Through this activity, we understand the development situation of native forest chicken in Jianmenguan. Support the development of home. At the same time, it can provide material for the school curriculum and local curriculum.

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

Hardwares: computer , digital camera, the scanner , USB and tally book . computer software:CISS webpage design system, Dreamweaver , Photoshop , Microsoft Word, Internet Exporer , ACDSee and Ftp. Websites and Network: Interconnection , E-mail, FTP Server and ADSL Broadband. Our above science and technology tool, played a huge role in our data collection and homepage manufacture. Computers, digital cameras, CISS establishment of systems, cross-network support from Qianxiangwancai, others are provided by schools, teachers and parents who try their best to help, so that we could successfully complete a thematic research programme. In addition to computers, networks and other infrastructure support, we believe that the most valuable is CISS establishment of website systems provided by Qianxiangwancai that allows building websites efficiently and easylier, so that we can have more time to gather and organize information

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

Through this page, we introduce to audiences all over the world agricultural resources in our hometown. We will also do the role of ambassador responded by email, mail and other means to communicate with people(groups) all over the world and show more beautiful side of hometown to the outside world.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

The research, investigation and data collection, the process of making Webpage for native forest chicken in Jianmenguan have influence on students and local residents, specifically manifested in: first, the students have more understanding on the nutritional value of chicken. At the same time, they also pay more attention to food safety, such as anti season vegetables, pigs in farm are no longer popular. We more like the vegetables which are planted at home and domestic pigs. Some students also love labor, and they said they would like to plant some vegetables. Second, the impacts on the residents. The brand of Jianmenguan forest native chicken depends on the efforts of everyone, a lot of cooperative users find that to create the brand is very difficult, and every household must sell the chicken according to the suitable time. Don’t damage brand reputation for your own profit. At the same time, the cooperative quality supervision system is also needed to establish, otherwise the enterprise will not be strong, and efforts are easy to be destroyed on one day. There are also more farmers plan to join the chicken farms.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

The parents of the students, the production department, the County Animal Husbandry Bureau and farms and other units in Sanfang village, have provided selfless help for us!
