Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

We had our project with primary, secondary school and lyceum students and with their parents and teachers.

2. Summary of Our Project

In our project we wanted to show how healthy lifestyle is important in people’s lives and preventing it from early ages. First of all we searched information on healthy lifestyle, then students of Asaka Access prepared their slogans and posters promoting healthy lifestyle, and secondary school children prepared their role plays showing bad and good habits in a healthy life. The students had a workshop to kids on Healthy lifestyle. Then we collected all our work about healthy lifestyle and started to create our webpage. Our friends from Andijan Access inspired by our actions and joined us to our project on GlobalschoolNet CyberFair Program. Our friends from Andijan Access wrote their opinions about Healthy lifestyle and sent their quotes and pictures which promote healthy lifestyle. Finally we created our web site with 6 pages.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:21-50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:2-3

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dial-up modem

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:2-3

E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):

We have an Internet access in our classroom for 2 years. According to our Access program we have 2 an hour IT lessons a month for the whole class. We used one classroom computer and 3 teachers' laptops and students' cell phones for the implementing the project. It'll be O'K if we have a good internet connection and more computers in our classroom. Because of slow internet connection sometimes we had to save our work and submit them later at night time.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

As it's our second time participating in CyberFair and creating a project website we didn't have so many difficulties as in the previous one. We can say that during our project we had some technical difficulties because of slow internet connection. So we saved our work and submitted them later at midnight time. We had 4 computers in our classrooms so students worked turn by turn on creating a project website. We had often a cut of electricity. Of course, not all students could practise uploading our works on our pages.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

When Andijan Access students said they inspired by our actions and they also want to participate in the project we were so happy that our participation in CyberFair took some people' attention and they also want to take participation in a health awareness action.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

It has become a tradition to name each year with different names in Uzbekistan. For example: 2008 is a year of Youth, 2013 is a year of Prosperous Life. The president of Uzbekistan I Karimov named 2014 as a year of Healthy Child. In all fields of life all people try to make their contribution to healthy future of our generation. With participation in this project students wanted to bring their share to this health aware action. Students wrote their opinions about Healthy lifestyle and prepared their quotes and pictures which promote healthy lifestyle. It's a good motivation for our learners participating in such kind of online projects. It enables our learners to develop their English and become good citizens During creating our project website students learnt how to work on Forum. It's new for them that's why they needed more practice. The students learnt to work collobaratively, they tried to bring their shares to fulfill tasks.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

We used one classroom computer and 3 teachers' laptops, a digital camera and 8 cell phones for our project. We searched the internet for information and took photos with a camera, used laptops for our presentation and workshop. All technical devices which we had were useful in implementing our project.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

While presenting in school workshop students showed their parents and teachers their knowledge about healthy lifestyle and with their action they inspired other people to take care of their lives having a healthy lifestyle. In their workshop they invited 2 disabled children. After teaching how to raise mood with dancing and music students danced together with them and played some lovely music. The attention given to them helped to raise the mood of those disabled students. We can say it's very touchable moments and it helped to understand different lives and become good citizens.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Our project has made a difference. Students, teachers and parents learned that teaching kids about healthy lifestyle and hygiene are a good idea and necessary. When we wrote about our work and participation in GlobalschoolNet CyberFair Program in local newsletter other English teachers showed their interests in our work. They also want to do such activities on healthy lifestyle matters with their students.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

Our helpers were school teachers Gavhar oa, Dildora. They helped us to organize a workshop, bring parents and children, even disabled students to one place. Gavhar opa told that she loved the idea of inviting our disabled children who study at home to our workshop. Teachers said they would invite them to other events at school too in future. Another teacher Hulkaroy encouraged our students with her good comments on our project via the Internet.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

If we give much more opportunities to our learners they can open new worlds to themselves. Even we teachers can learn lot of new things from each opportunity. From our mistakes we learnt that we mustn't put everything to deadline, we must double check everything, we should follow the rules and tips and advices from the site can be always helpful while building your site. Through the project we learned how to work cooperatively and take other people's attention to our action. We got a positive feedback from other English teachers about using internet and online learning of English. GlobalschoolNet program was a discovery for other English teachers who insired our work. We've understood that all people must be responsible first of all for their own living and they must take care of others too.
