Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Bazhong, is located in the northeast of Sichuan, belongs to Ba in ancient times, belongs to Bajun in Qin Dynasty, it has 1500 years of history. It covers an area of 4116 square kilometers, population is 3000000.

2. Summary of Our Project

According to the arrangement of our school, this activity is organized and implemented by the school league committee. Our school league committee organized a school wide speech named I Love My Father and Mather in order to further promote students treasuring affection and friendship. Before the Mid-Autumn day, our school league committee held a league secretary meeting from the second grade of Junior Middle School to the second grade of Higher Middle School, which arranged the task for all members of each branch of the school to write an article they themselves saw or thought about with the topic of the Mid-Autumn day. We selected 10 touching stories from more than 500 articles as the thematic material of this activity.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:21-50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:1

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:4-6

E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):

Because our school is located in the mountain area, coupled with restrictions on the school’s own economic conditions, the school computer and network equipment condition is poor. The computer maximum configuration is only P4 2.6G. The school network uses ADSL for surfing with bandwidth 2 trillion, which should be assigned to each office, so the internet is very slow. No student could own his own computer.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

First, the equipment is scare. We try to lend the equipment and rent it when there is really no method. Second, the network environment is poor. Usually I work escaping the office peak time.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

We hope that more parents pay attention to the children’s healthy growth fully, not only meeting their needs with money, but also giving them spiritual love. They should communicate more with children spiritually, which makes the flowers of our country be full of life. We look forward to the bloom day. Our activity is widely praised by the society.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

The purpose of quality education is to fully improve the moral quality, cultural quality, scientific quality and physical and mental qualities of students. Through our special activities, it aims to take students out from the school traditional teaching, let students go to the society and then integrate and feel the society, make them take part in social practice, from which it can develop the students’ all kinds of abilities, including social practice, social adaptability, cooperative exploration and distinguishing right and wrong, can make them establish right outlook on life and values, learn to get along with others, and can purify the students’ hearts.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

Computer, digital camera ,scanner, USB drive, switch

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

The members of our theme group are all left-behind children except the instructors. Though we do not have the same living experience with the majority of those children, we still have some common language. We talk about life, learning, ideals, parents and family with them. We have a body with double identities in this activity, both the subject (the interviewer) and the object (the interviewee).

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Our action is neither the benchmark nor orientation for other people. However, through the students’ touching and tear-jerking stories, we aim to make more people clearly see the mental health and learning situation of the left-behind students in rural, feel their living status and touch their hearts space.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

a. We appreciate the organization of the league committee of Huacong Middle School to this activity. b. We appreciate the Dean’s Office and Principal’s Office of Huacong Middle Schoo providing a lot of material for our activities. We appreciate all students participating this activity and writing articles. We hope you healthy, make progress in study and be full of sunshine in your life.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

a. During the past few months, though we were very hard, we had more harvest. First, it purifies our hearts and makes us understand a lot of real stories which are full of passion or thought-provoking or jerking. We are touched by their friendship and affection with blood thicker than water. We rejoice for their success and feel sad because of their unfortunate families. Second, we learned some knowledge can not learned from the established courses, including photography, creating web pages and so on. b. The most gratifying is that this activity is an activity with zero expenditure.
