Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

He Mei, out community, is a small town in Changhua county in Taiwan, and it is famous for the weaver industry. People in He Mei are all friendly and hard-working. We always try to dream big and make dreams come true. Kai, the famous athlete we introduce, was born and grew up here.

2. Summary of Our Project

This project is about a fantastic runner in Taiwan. He has made the best 100-meter record in Taiwan. You will see how he becomes a great athlete, how he trains himself, how his coaches and friends think about him, and how he inspires all of us.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:more than 50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:1

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:more than 6

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

The most difficult part is that my students are not so good at computers, so they start to learn how to build a nice webpages for a computer teacher at my school. Second, they have to handle this project and their schoolwork at the same time, so they try to arrange their time, and use their time well.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

It's a nice opportunity to broaden our mind and enrich our knowledge. It provides a chance for people to know more about our school and community.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

We know more knowledge about track and field than we learned at school before. We put the skills we learn about interviewing others in class into practice. We learn how to work in a team and how to communicate with others. We also improve the skill in using computers.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

We use Moodle to store the information we collect on Net. We use scanners and printers to copy the information we found. We use Picasa to store pictures we took by digital cameras. We use Facebook, emails, and phone calls to contact with one another, and use video cameras to record all the interview.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

They connect with people to arrange interviews through phone calls. They interview people in person. The first time they interviewed with Kai, the felt so nervous. Kai found their voice was trembling, so Kai tried to relax them by telling them some fun stories about himself.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Through this project, people in our community and at my school know more about Kai, an outstanding athlete born and grew up in our community. They can see Kai's persistence in chasing his dream and can be inspired by his spirit. People in our community also tell us that they did learn something through our project, and they will follow Kai's example.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

We are so lucky that so many people in our community give us a lot of help, such as teachers, neighbors, parents, and friends. They provide us many ideas and information about this project. They also encourage us to insist on this project. This project wouldn't be done so successfully without all the helpers. Thanks a bunch for all of you.
