4. Problems We Had To Overcome

We took part in the competition CyberFair for the second time. Our first time happened in 2009. Students who joined the project were from different classes, guided by different teachers. The first difficulty was related to the coordination of teachers and students. The use of e-mail was very helpful in solving this problem, which gave us the opportunity to the rapid exchange of ideas and work effects. A further complication was associated with a small number of people - translators. Some students withdrew. We had to find a replacement quickly. Another problem was related to the technical issues when answers had to be written to the fields on the Cyber Project.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

The participation in the International Project Cyber Fair is very important to us. A lot of people around the world can learn about our work, we hope that the problem of poverty will be taken up in other parts of the world and therefore we make the world a better place.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

The participation of our students in the actions of the Polish Humanitarian Action goes far beyond the task of school. Young people are prepared to live in a society, as well to the development of humanitarian attitudes. The participation in the Project CyberFair is consistent with the standards of the Polish education, as the main focus in education is on learning skills in ICT and the project Cyber Fair strongly promotes the development of these skills.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

Our most valuable tools were: computers, the Internet, interviews. We used software: Microsoft Word to edit the information, MS Outlook Express to send and receive mail, Microsoft Internet Explorer and Internet search engines to search and browse the Internet resources such as dictionaries and encyclopedias, Kompozer to design our website and sometimes we used Windows Notepad to improve HTML, Macromedia Flash MX to design computer animations and presentations, MS Photo Editor and Corel Draw to process the image, digital camera. It should be noted that our school has a fully-equipped computers, so we had no problems in finding the necessary tools. To achieve our Cyber Fair project we used: 6 PC Intel Core i5 3,33 GHz, computers, home computers of teachers and students, printers, scanners, telephones, the Internet, as well as oral interviews. Most of the tools were available at our school.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

While working on the project the students were involved in many local campaigns organized by the City Council of Gliwice, Sports Club 'Piast' in Gliwice, conferences of Polish Humanitarian Organization in Warsaw - the Polish capital. All our students, as well as a branch of the Polish Humanitarian Action responsible for contacts with schools were informed about joining the project CyberFair. Many parents joined the project by helping in the organization of various events such as environmental and outgoing. The students of our school are involved in global and humanitarian education classes for many years.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

This project expands the knowledge of many people about climate change and ways to reduce the poverty, it is mindful of the needs of vulnerable people affected by natural disasters, teaches empathy, respect for the dignity of every human being, especially women, children, refugees and repatriates. It encourages to make changes in their lives, to improve the quality of life for vulnerable people, to engage in humanitarian actions. It is the promotion of our city and promotes our school in the community. The project is also to show young people how much they can do good for others when they act together. We could inform about the project a lot of people, thanks to ICT - through the website, e-mail.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

All those who helped us in organizing various activities of global and humanitarian education clubs, festivals, sports competitions.
