Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Since China has a vast territory and abundant resources, the difference of climate, property and customs are existed, a lot of flavors are formed for a long time. Rice is the main food for people in the south part of china and flour food for north part., sweet food in south, salty food in north, acid food in east and hot food in west, the main four flavors are Bashu, Qilu, Huaiyang, Guangdong and Fujian. Throughout the year, according to the season and to eat is another feature of Chinese cooking. Since ancient times, China has been seasoned and garnished according to the seasons, and the taste is strong in winter and mild in summer; stewing and simmering in winter and acetarious in the summer. Chinese cooking not only have technical skills but also pay attention to aesthetic of dishes, and they focus on coherence of food color, smell, taste and shape. Either a carrot or a cabbage can be carved out of a variety of shapes, to achieve the harmony and unity of color, smell, taste, shape, gives a high degree of special enjoyment in mental. Chinese cooking focus on tasting for a long time, it is not only strict on the color, smell and taste of the food, but also there are strict requirements on their names, the taste, the rhythm of meals, entertainment.

2. Summary of Our Project

Our team is responsible for food diplomacy. Food diplomacy is easily to be accepted. With the acceleration of the integration process in the world, food diplomacy has been developed rapidly. In our project, Through our research on food culture diplomacy and economic, and many national leaders carry out diplomacy with food, it shows that food diplomacy is very important in the diplomatic sphere, we think that the food is culture carrier, we focus on analyzing Asian international food culture characteristics of Western, China, Korea, Japan, it shows that food exchanges between different countries can help them strengthen the diplomacy, to improve people's mutual understanding between nations, especially cultural understanding, make the countries more inclusive, have more communication, tolerance and communication is friendly and peaceful, and people from different countries enjoy the culture and customs of the different regions in the world. We also personally experienced the Western practice, furthermore, understanding the Western culture.

The students in our school get on the internet through ADSL, and 2M bandwidth of China Telecom is used. A few students can get on the internet at home, and some teachers can get on the Internet at home.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

In order to carry out the project, the first object we interviewed is the boss of West restaurant, he not only told us about Western's manners but also the mode of operation of the Western, but he is more focused on operating efficiency, so we think that he knew less about Western culture. But it was very remote here, almost there were no foreigners, so we cannot interview people who really understood Western culture, we can only find information in the library and to collect data on the network. In order to experience the Western culture, we made use of local materials, in accordance with the information on the method, do a simple Western food, of course, this is very simple, we believe that this can deepen our understanding of food diplomacy.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

Through research more than a few months, we believe that cultural exchanges in different countries can be improved through food diplomacy, enrich diversity of the diet, more importantly, as the carrier for its cuisine, to strengthen cultural exchanges between the countries and enhance mutual understanding, of course, it can also develop the economic exchanges.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Our school requires us to finish social research surveys and social practice activities, just to be consistent with the requirements of the school, through research, making webpage, it can improve our social cognition and professional skills, and this is consistent with the requirement of school. In the study of the research process, we got the support of school and community, we have learned a lot of different exchanges, and communication skills have been improved. We also feel that the project research is as the same as learning knowledge, you need a sense of teamwork to overcome the difficulties with a positive attitude towards everything. Our study is made of webpage, which further enhances our confidence in learning.

Tow computers, Camera used for taking photos; Dreamweaver MX 2004 used for webpage making; photshop 7.0 used for images editing; Cute FTP 7 used for files upload and download

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

In order to experience the culture of the Western diet, the three of us personally do Western food, and shared with the students, the three of us went to the West restaurant to taste the charm of the Western food, and communicating with the boss to get his support. In order to get more information in the study, we also mobilized a lot of students and teachers to help us.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Many people in our community know more about cuisine and cultural significance in different countries through our research, we also recognize that the problem of world food exchanges is existed. The people around us take the initiative to study the culinary culture of different countries, understanding the history of a nation's culture.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

This is the first time to make webpage, we are lack of experience in the production, and some still do not understand, to overcome this difficulty, we invite the three computer professional teachers for our consultants to help achieving our thoughts.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

We also found that the same problem is existed in the diet exchanges, such as religion has great impact on food culture, and there is food safety problem.
