Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Chaotian is located in the north of Sichuan Province, Guangyuan City, in the border of Sichuan, Shaanxi and Gansu province, known as the 'Chuanbeimenhu'. The Zhijiang middle school is junior high school which is set by Education Bureau in Chaotian, known as “window school” of Chaotian, and it is also named as 'plane trees' of middle education in Chaotian.

2. Summary of Our Project

This year, we decided to participate in Doors to Diplomacy project once again, to be honest, we do not know how to do it. Because this place is very small, it seems that it is not associated with diplomatic. We have carried out a series of activities about foreign teachers into schools, and we feel we need to show it out, to hope that there will be more opportunities to communicate with the outside world. After deciding the theme, we began to make the picture, division of labor, to collect data for research. After more than a month of hard work, a number of group meetings were convened, a lot of difficulties were overcome, and a large number of first-hand information was prepared. No pains, no gains, under the guidance of a teacher, we completed web production on time with the CISS of company, although it is very rough, after all, it is our result

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:less than 20

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:1

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:1

E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):

Supplement of computer or Internet access: the students in our school get on the internet through ADSL, and 2M bandwidth of China Telecom is used. Even though there is computer room in our school, the Internet network is not connected, more than 10 machines in only a few small offices can connected Internet, a few students can get on the internet at home, and some teachers can get on the Internet at home.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

Because of our cowardice, coupled with the nervous learning task, the interview is not done enough, also encountered a lot of difficulties, it is difficult to find the information and data we want. The resources of the Internet in our school are limited, the computer is few, we should collect a lot of information, so we have to go to the teacher's office to check the information, and the teachers are very supportive of us and accompanied us for overtime work until completed.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

No pains, no gains, we can finally experience the joy of success.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

The number of teachers and students is about 3,000, there are 42 classes, because it is located in the remote area of northern Sichuan, the quality of teaching is relatively backward, we hope that more foreign teachers can walk into Zhijiang middle school to improve our level of spoken English and promote foreign culture exchanges, expand their horizons and increase their knowledge. Therefore, we have chosen to participate in the Doors to Diplomacy project, combining the regular curriculums with the research activities of Doors to Diplomacy project, making enough preparations, and when the time comes, we will carry out more colorful cultural exchange activities in the school.
