Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Our local community – Hemei, Changhua County, Taiwan Hemei is a small town between Changhua City and Lukang town, which is one of early developed areas in Taiwan. In the early stage of Taiwan recovery, Taiwan got the nickname of “Textile Kingdom.” “Hemei textile” was popular in Taiwan and sold out to the world. Hemei was the leader of umbrellas and parasols industry in Taiwan, and other manufacturing businesses, such as copper valves, plumbing hardware, rubber, plastic, and so on, were also well developed. Hemei was a famous industrial town at the early stage. With evolution, traditional industries were reformed and innovated towards the spectrum of science and technology, diversity, lifestyle, internationalization, green, sustainability. Hemei is regarded as the economic center of Changhua County.

2. Summary of Our Project

“String expert”- Yao I Fabric Co., Ltd., founded in 1973. For many years specializing in a variety of professional strings manufacturing technology, Yao I is the leader in the industry, accumulates a large number of patents in countries around the world. In nearly four decades, Yao I innovates string technology and turns strings to a series of products: from fishing tackle, sports equipment, to gardening supplies. The company has become an important international string supplier in the industry.In recent years, Yao I utilized its original spinning technology, researching and developing non-toxic mesh to expand its market to OA chair, car seat cushion, and even underwear cup.Believing in the business philosophy of 'Alliance, activeness, determination, innovation, best quality, and glory,' Yao I pursues sustainable business growth. In recent years Yao I more actively involves in the research and development of environmentally friendly recyclable products. Several technologies have been applied to the production to fulfill corporate social responsibility for the 'Green Earth'. Yao I Fabric Co. is 'the pride of Hemei' - 'pride of Changhua ' - 'pride of Taiwan.” The thematic research is to introduce how Taiwanes local company-Yao I relies on its string creation to enter the worldwide market and to build a prosperous company. We named this project...'String' in Blue Ocean; 'Face' Prosperity

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

1.Lack of computer skills 2.Outline of website architecture 3.Lack of expertise in the petrochemical industry 4.Lack of courage and ambiguous during interviews 5.The division of labor was not easy. 6.The responsibility of local ambassador was huge.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Integrative Activities We cultivated the spirit of 'teamwork' and a division of labor. Through discussion, encouragement, self-supervision, we completed each phase of the mission, experienced the united power, and shared the results. In the research process, we enhanced the mutual understanding to strive towards the same goal. When compiling information, we respected the intellectual property rights and used the copyright authorization.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

The biggest learning in Taiwan Schools Cyberfair is the skills of the information hardware and software. It is not easy to build a website. In addition to writing and typing, I had to learn digital equipment, art skills and film processing software, animation, post-production audio and video processing and editing, and so on. We found it very interesting, and we were happy in learning!

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

How we serve as ambassadors Making large posters to put on campus bulletins for all the children of school. Promote and report in each class. Building online voting platform so that children can vote for the best ambassador. Exchanging experiences and communicating with Da-Rong Elementary School.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Any learning is a preparation for our dream. The stage of dream is in daily life. In this thematic research, we learn that a very pragmatic and successful business path from Yao I. Yao I’s products of string and mesh exist in everyday life, including fishing string, racquet string, trimmer string, breathable pad in female underwear cup, car seat fabric, non-woven chair cloth ...... full of creativity and design to meet consumer demand and bring tremendous opportunities. During visit, we knew the departments carry out their duties in the process of production for smooth operation; industrial safety requirements give employees a safe and comfortable working environment; strict quality control provides consumers the quality assurance of the product. Among those, R & D and design gave us inspiration. The competitiveness is to master the key technology. Yao I transforms a traditional industry by technology, and with stable growth and expansion, it promotes local economics and provides many jobs. In three plants in Taiwan, the statistics of number of employees in Hemei headquarter, Jhangbin, and Douliou are on the right. It seeks talents in all human resource banks, making significant contributions to locals. Through being ambassadors, we promoted the spirit of entrepreneurship from Yao I, and encouraged to learn and find that the chance of success in everyday life. Dream in fact in our own hands.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

Most helpers are from Yao I Fabric. All the members are willing to be interviewed and telling the history of the company. Besides, they show our group members the process of making various products.
