Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

2. Summary of Our Project

'Is not dusty relics of this research project, we plan to start online and information to understand overview; then, our team went to the site, careful exploration, taking pictures to understand overview characteristics, inquiring' Old North Wall ruins dislocation, fracture, collapse, destroying the case; Finally, for the problems, multi-party inquiry, cooperative inquiry, to resolve. Round understanding of the 'Old North Great Wall construction, history and dislocation, fracture, collapse, destruction of reasons, efforts to study the site protection measures to solve the' Old North Great Wall ', reflects our wish to schools and other interested parties, called on teachers and students and other interested parties to take positive action to protect the ancient Great Wall ruins, do not let the ruins of civilization is covered with dust, swallowed up by modern civilization, this is the main purpose for this activity.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

We take pictures, exploration has encountered great difficulties, especially to the beacon tower on the mountain climb, the more difficult the encouragement and help of two teachers, we helped each other to overcome the difficulties, careful exploration and shootlots of photos.We have no advantages in using Internet. Our school now gets access to the Internet via China Tietong. The internet connection is weak and there is only one computer room for searching information. What’s worse, our teaching building is quite far from computer room, so we has much limited time to use computer during short break time. Moreover, the students involved are all from countryside who get no computer at home, so they have to prepare competition work in e-lesson preparation office in their spare time.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

Our research program has gained strong support from school leaders and relevant local people. To fulfill our aim to protect the historical site of ancient civilization through cooperative research, we have released photos, research materials onto the website of our school, so as to attract more students and teachers to join us and give their opinions, suggestions and conduct discussions. In order to arouse their awareness of protection and interest in making web pages, our team members always explain to them patiently and help them master the knowledge about web pages.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Our research program of “Old North Great Wall – The Uncovered Historical Remains” corresponds with the needs of the development of new curriculum which has plans and explicit demands for comprehensive learning, inquiry learning and all subjects. Our research is included among comprehensive learning and inquiry learning. It involves subjects such as Chinese, history, geography and information technology. The research is not only a great help for us to exercise our ability of collecting and sorting information, observing, operating, cooperative researching and practicing, but also a help for us to learn scientific culture better, promote the development of teaching work and comprehensive courses of our school. At the same time, as a school-based course, web page making has been offered for many years in our school. Moreover, we have won prizes for many times in this field, which has encouraged more students to take part in the activity and improved their ability of many aspects, thus promoting the development of the school-based course as well as making the web page the feature and highlight of our school.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

I take part in the research program of “Old North Great Wall – The Uncovered Historical Remains” for the hope that we can understand the basic situation of the “Old North Great Wall” at the foot of Helan Mountain in Hongguozi Town of Huinong District, and appeal to students, society and all parties concerned to protect the historical site of ancient civilization. For this purpose, we act as ambassadors and take the responsibility to tell people about it and appeal to them to protect it. First, we release the photos and problems we have developed during field investigation and relevant materials we have got during researching onto the website of our school, so as to make students and teachers know about the situation of the “Old North Great Wall”. Second, we bring teachers and students together during the break for setting-up exercises to tell them about the situation of the “Old North Great Wall”, so as to appeal to all students to take active actions to urge their parents and villagers to protect it. After school, we have made interviews with several residents near the “Old North Great Wall”, relevant leaders of communities and apartments of historic preservation, so as to further understand its history and current status. We have presented our exploring materials, wishes and suggestions to them, and we are all moved by their hospitable reception, sincere introduction and hearty expression. In addition, we have printed and distributed publicity materials for students to bring home for their family members. At the same time, we have get our website linked to the photos of the ancient Great Wall on Ningxia Outdoors Forum, Hiking Friends Class, Album of Ningxia Great Wall – He who doesn’t reach the Great Wall is not a true man, so as to allow more people to comprehensively know about the ancient Great Wall in Ningxia.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

During research, we have established good relation with some parents, CPPCC member Tao Libin, Curator Ai and several residents near the “Old North Great Wall” in Hongguozi Town through interviews in addition to Internet communication. They give us their telephone number and tell us to consult them if we have any question. Now, they have become avid readers of our website. We really appreciate their help and support.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

After participating in the web page making, we have gained and understood a lot. This activity has provided a platform for us to show ourselves. When looking back, we feel anything can be finished without the strength of unity. It helps us solve one another difficulties and strengthen our friendship. At the same time, we have understood that the most important thing is to participate no matter what we will get in the end. As long as you try your best, you are great and halfway there.
