The total area of Tianjhong covers 34.6056 square kilometers. In addition to Tianjhong train station, the Changhua high-speed rail station located in Tianjhong is currently under construction. In short, the transportation of Tianjhong will be more convenient in the future.

In the past, roses were also one of the main crops in town. Besides, cream agriculture is one of the specialties in Tianjhong.

2. Summary of Our Project

The first Taiwan’s Rice Heaven—Tianjhong International Marathon is specially meaningful to residents in Tianjhong. When informed this activity, we talked over how to write down the process by creating a special website to spead out this wonderful news. Through the introduction of this research project, people can learn more about the small but great town ,“Taiwan’s Rice Heaven'—Tianjhong.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:21-50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:4-6

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:2-3

E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):

Our school currently has two computer classrooms with the academic network connected, so we used computers at school to complete the most of our project as much as possible. Besides, all the members in our group have personal computers at home, which can continue our progress of the project. In other words, the rest of the project was done at home.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

Last year, a team of our school awarded the national bronze prize, so we consult the same teachers to direct us. Fortunately, the teachers were also very pleased and willing to help, which let us full of confidence. Therefore, we began looking forward to the CyberFair 2013. However, when we started the project, what bothered us very much is it difficult to search materials related to our theme. But, after constantly searching, brainstorming, and discussing, we overcome many problems gradually. For we all wanted to do something good to this piece of land, we chose “Taiwan’s Rice Heaven, Tianjhong 520 Harvest and Praying Carnival” as the theme of our project.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

Just do it, and you will make it! Although it took us so much time to finish the project, the experiences were very precious.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

The main target of creating the website about this activity is to make others (non-natives, especially foreigners) learn more about Tianjhong by web surfing. Through creating the website, we practiced the skills we learned in computer class, such as skills to deal and fix photos, collect materials, arrange web pages and paragraphs, and skill to communicate with residents. In addition, we found that it is more effective to use computer technology to process our project, and our teachers also used computers to assist their teaching in class. Our website may be not good enough, but it can be a basic introduction or a tour guide to Tianjhong for non-natives.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

Personal Computer 7 network-connected computers with dual-core CPU to process data

Interview Visit the residences to collect more information about our theme. Internet Surf the Internet to find more information DC and Recorder Take pictures and record the data during the inverview Scanner and Printer Use scanners to scan images and use the printer to print data Telephone and Cellphone Contact with the interviewees Flash Drives Store data and send to PC without network Website Creating and Images Processing Software Namo WebEditor, Photocap, Cuteftp, Office

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

After the carnival, people who took part in the marathon highly praised this activity on the Net. Some people are even ready for the next time, and others surfed our website were curious about the activity, and ask about the details. These affirmative resoponses from internet already encourage the team of Tianjhong town hall(the organizer) planning the activity to decide to expand the scale to a yearly international tournament.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Because the website was created by us, people surfing our web pages not only learned more about the activities in Tianjhong but also was informed the existence of our school(Tianjhong Senior High School). This project is the first time for us to create a meaningful website concerning about local culture of Tianjhong. For this reason, to finish it is a great task for us. During the period of collecting information, people understanding our target of the project are all willing to help us, and thanks for their helping we finished this project finally!

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

The person we have to thank the most is teacher Yeh. He is a really kind person with many traditional skills. Although he was very busy, he still patiently explained the procedures of making dolls to us even if we came unexpectedly. As he said, there are fewer and fewer people understanding how to make dolls. He has many pupils to teach, and really hopes the traditional skill can pass down to some of them.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

After finishing the project, we also changed our past impression about Tianjhong. We just cannot imagine such a small town with a population less than 45,000 has changed so much. The organizer of Tianjhong is able to hold such a great activity with large scale. We are really surprised!
