Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Tucheng district is called Tucheng before. Because its neighbor-Banqiao becomes population saturated, people move to south for development, which results in rapid population growing of Tucheng. Then turn to be named Tucheng district in 2010. There are many restaurants in Tucheng due to the rapid growth of the population. Bravo Pasta Restaurant is located on Xue-fu road in Tucheng. It creates new flavors of pasta different from traditional Italian to meet demands of local consumer. Therefore, we can understand how exotic cuisine integrates into local culture through the research project this time.

2. Summary of Our Project

Taiwanese believe that food is all, and it is also known as a gourmet Kingdom. As long as the food is delicious, people in Taiwan would try for it! Therefore, the exotic cuisine is almost acceptable. Bravo Pasta Restaurant is a special restaurant in Tucheng. There are many students enjoy meals with their parents on weekdays there. We wish to get a better understanding of this restaurant, including business ideas, ways to success and attracting consumers. Besides, we also hope to know more about the exotic cuisine and culture to broaden our horizons.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:more than 50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:more than 6

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:4-6

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

1.Time is limited: Our sixth-year seniors, who have worked on the “Taiwan school Cyberfair' before faced the uploading difficulty because there are too many reports uploaded at the same time and caused upload failure. So this time we're relatively early to upload the report, but it may result in the problem of time insufficiency. 2.Collecting information is not easy: Bravo Pasta Restaurant has no chain stores or outlets, neither a huge corporate-organization, so there is no website for it. Most information comes from bloggers who recommend meals there on the net. As a result, there are great difficulties in collecting information. 3.Computer capacity: Lots of people use computer only for online games. Although teacher has taught us some basic computer skills, such as how to search for information, how to type, and so on, we still forget these things easily– type fast, and tell reliable data from bloggers’ articles. Fortunately, we make a progress due to the project this time, though we make a lot of effort. 4.Language proficiency: Because some classmates are especially good at mathematics, there are some problems in writing research reports. There are some irregular usage of words, unreasonable arrangement of sentence, or it may be hard to catch the point of article. Above all, we also spend a lot of collating information. 5.Team work: As the final exam is coming, most students put their efforts mainly on schoolwork, and spend most of time reviewing, while there is no time to complete the unfinished ideas or reports. However, some people have already planned to go out playing after the examination, some want to participate in other activities, some have cram school schedule, but nobody has time to complete this project report.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

1.We have known how to make a delicious pasta meal. 2.We found the characteristics of the business successful. 3.We understand the etiquette of exotic cultural.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

1.The area of ??language: In order to understand Bravo Restaurant, we read a lot of books about pasta, and also read bloggers’ comments on Bravo Pasta’s blog. The other part is to visit the restaurant. We not only need to design issues, integrate issues, then visit the restaurant, but also have to design questions for people to answer. Those activities enhance our language ability and bring us lots of knowledges. 2. Integrated areas: The purpose of this activity “Pasta cooker” is to cook pasta. We not only learned the method of making pasta, but also cooked a fragrant pasta personally. 3.The area of mathematics: We produced a questionnaire for parents and students, and then we analysised the recovered questionnaires. 4.The area of natural: The activity ”spaghetti tower” let us learned the essentials of building. 5. The area of Information: We used computers to collect data, integrate data, and then wrote down researching diaries and ideas of the activity with computer. To make some information about Bravo Pasta set up on the computer.
