Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Qingchuan is located in the edge mountain area of Sichuan Basin. It covers a big and wide area, with small population, and is rich in resources and poor in economy. Prior to the overwhelming earthquake in 2008, this county was little known by the outside world because of the poor economy, blocking traffic and challenged development. Since then, it has been attracting the whole county and even the whole world's attention. In past few years, our county has applied for several provincial and national degrees intangible cultural heritage but failed to make it. Qingchuan weeding to the sound of Gongs and drums was listed in the first group of intangible cultural heritage approved by the State Council.

2. Summary of Our Project

We chose the old people nearly over eighty years old in Qingchuan County as our targets to interview, because they have experienced the most prosperous period of weeding to the sound of Gongs and drumsi n the 1970s . So we looked deep into the origin and development of Qingchuan weeding to the sound of Gongs and drums. Today, the living space of Qingchuan haocao luogu has been shrinking, as a result of the modern production methods and the difficulty for the traditional ones in keeping pace with times. What is worse, it will be in danger of extinction, also due to the facts that the aged singers passed by in succession, many young people choose to earn their living outside and the current singers are in great shortage. Therefore, it is high time protected and carried on Qingchuan haocao luogu.

E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):

Hence the computer course became a compulsory course, and all the students mastered the using of computer. Besides, 10M fiber high speed of internet has been accessed, and the network speed has been improved.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

Difficulty on communicationMost of the old people spoke the local dialect that we had to try very hard to understand, also they could not easily understand our mandarin. So in the interview we tried to use body languages as much as possible. The new team member in this year's contest were not proficient with some soft wares. So we asked the teachers to guide them individually. We collected materials at a low speed, so we divided into small teams with team leaders to supervise and collect the related information on time.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

Qingchuan weeding to the sound of Gongs and drums has been, in the past fifty to sixty years, went through the periods of prosperity and declination, as well as from declination to prosperity. To promote the local national culture, we took is as our obligation to conduct the research on the subject of Qingchuan weeding to the sound of Gongs and drums. In the processes of this activity, including preparation for the website, interview and website making, we have learned a lot, such as the knowledge that failed to learn in classes, fully realizing the importance of team work and helping each other and only in such ways can we complete a task on a beautiful way. Through this Net Fair contest, we deeply realized one thing that only if we are more serious and work harder to do everything that can we be successful.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Our regular courses have been integrated into our research. In which, we paid attention to integrate the theoretical knowledge with the social practice, develop the students' social capabilities, expression skills, powers of observation and analytical abilities, in order to form advanced thinking abilities. n the research, each one in the team was required to study deep into the project and be equipped with firm foundation of knowledge learned in classes, and use our knowledge to explore the new one and deepen it. In this activity, we obviously felt that students' consciousness on team work, contribution to the whole team and society has been strengthened.
