Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Zabrze is located in the west of the province of Silesia. It is one of the largest cities of Silesia. In Zabrze there are many sport buildings and institutions. Our school, nr 42 im. Nicolaus Copernicus has over 240 students in elementary grade. Our school community is like a small family. Our teachers and parents work very closely to provide exciting learning activities for the students. We have many special assemblies, clubs, and programs in which we can participate and learn new things. We have a strong character education program at our school. We are organize picnic and party for parents. This is family-oriented community.

2. Summary of Our Project

Our Computer Science Specialist, Mrs. Ewa Widera wanted to help us learn beyond our school walls and get actively involved and aware of the bigger world. So, she entered us in the CyberFair Project. We would like to present our interest in soccer and footbal. We activly participate in trainings of our club and we have school classes directly focused on sports. ie. Football and Basketball

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

During work with project, we need to across several problems. It seems to us that the most serious problem was that our English skill is not good enough. We wait for materials too long. We ask one of our administrator to create CMS for our purposes. Pupils also additionally learned: how to work on text, document resources and sources, how to effective seek on Internet, students also improved their language skills and they have also found out a lot about the football club history. Also, a lot of our research was done on our own by visiting our local library.

Our City is strongly coonected with Club and The Club is connected with City.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Project fulfills assumptions of Local Specialties category. We would like to present sporting events and unique connection of our club with our community and our school. The pupils have to used and overcome a set of computer programs required to create a presentation. Students also additionally learned: how to work on text, how to effective seek on Internet. Students also improved their language skills and they have also found out their football club history. Soon the students will be presenting this project to their school board. This will give them a chance to strengthen their speaking skills as well as give them the chance to promote their project even more.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

The informational and technological tools used in creating this project were: books on Gornik Zabrze Club from our local libraries, eight online computers, e-mail for the interviews of our club experts and sport coaches. Software used includes Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Word, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Joomla CMS.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

Our students have already acted as ambassadors for our Cyberfair project in several ways. The students worked closely with several football experts. Our students personally visited the Sport City Center and Club Stadiums. Parents appeared to be very helpful as well. Some of them helped us by working with their children at home. All engaged people were amazed that our students are researching and creating their own web page.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

This project enables people to see our connection of City, School and Club. Many people have visited our project page. Lots of them have contacted with us by email providing testimonial about our work.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

Thanks got to Pawel Czado for his publication. We would like to thanks our experts for help in research of club history. Here we present our teachers responsible for the project: Mrs Ewa Widera - an information technology teacher and the initiator of the project. She was responsible for the whole CyberFair project and the contacts with various institutions through electronic mail. She worked with the groups of students, checked their works and helped with all necessary problems. Thanks go to Mrs Tatiana Rebas English teacher. She prepared and verified texts of publication.
