1. Description of Our Community
Taipei is a bustling city full of life and hustles and bustles; the busy urban atmosphere and fast-paced life allow people little time to spend a leisurely afternoon to simply just read, enjoy the scenery, taste some good food or to venture into a book exhibition. In this restless city, there is a little room, and in this little room, Ariel Pang creates magic on a piece of paper with a paintbrush and all that she sees and hears and feels in Taipei City. The colorful characters and stories she creates not only add warmth to the urban center, but also fascinate the young hearts of many children.
2. Summary of Our Project
Ariel Pang is an illustrator whose works often emanate childlike affections. The vibrancy of her works catches the eyes of passersby, but the colors do not clash and are not overly loud to the senses. Her words are captivating because of her sincerity and humbleness; her openness makes people want to get close to her and find out more. We are lucky we can step into the home and workshop of Ariel Pang for an in-depth interview. It is fortunate that we can see her original works, and even more so a rare opportunity to see her drafts and childhood drawings that are not for public display. More importantly in this interview, we learn of her thoughts and advice regarding life as an illustrator. In today’s modern society where the cultural and creative industry is flourishing, an illustrator has become many people’s dream job. Through our website, we hope viewers can take a peek into the colorful world of an illustrator –Ariel Pang.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome
We had very little experience, and we frequently ran into technical problems. We also had a time constraint. The software was difficult for us to use, and we experienced many issues, but our instructor tirelessly provided us with helpful guidance and knowledge. We also received much moral support from our classmates, which gave us the motivation to succeed. Everyone who participated in this project contributed to the teamwork by offering his or her own strengths.
5. Our Project Sound Bite
During the interview with Ariel Pang, the local leader in our project, it was found that Pang was very enthusiastic about painting,and also emphasized the physical side of being an illustrator. When she demonstrated her experience of cooperating with publishiers to us, we could see from her eyes the generosity to share the precious experiences to the young people. We were not only deeply touched by her spirit but also realized that extending art and the sense of beauty as well as caring for the land we live on should not be the responsibility of only a few illustators and artists. Taiwan Schools Cyberfair has not only helped us learn how to become citizens who respect life and art,but also strengthens the relationships between classmates.
6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?
To make the website for our project, we interviewed illustrator Ariel Pang and researched and collated her works. Through this process we learned more about illustrating and how her inspirations came about, which facilitated our interests in this subject. Combined with our hard work and creativity inspired by the cyberfair, we hope that illustrations can benefit our second year design class. Whilst making the website, we also utilized Photoshop which we have learned in class. This not only helped our website making process, we also learned that drawings and illustrations can be done by both hand and computer software.
