Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Our local community Baia Mare is situated on the North Eastern side of Romania , and it’s the residence of Maramures. It represents a long series of touristic attractions, besides the fact that the city is polluted. In modern times the beauty that it represents says loud and clear that touristic opportunities are at each corner replacing the old activities of the people that live in the nearby region.

2. Summary of Our Project

Our project proposes to present Baia Mare city in other lightness, other than all the people knows - one of the most polluted cities in Romania. This project want to present to the entire world, local communities also architectural and natural attractions of our city. For this we documented from library and also from field and we've made a guide which presents 'the hidden beauties' of Baia Mare county.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:more than 50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:more than 6

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dial-up modem

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:more than 6

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

The obstacles that tried to torn apart this project , was the time itself because we had to focus on other studies at the same time. Of course it took a while to synthesize the information obtained from written bibliography and the one that the internet had to offer.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

The fact that this contest is international it represents a big benefice towards us, the students. The school offered us an important status for the realization of this project , and it represents an important step towards social and economic that goes same for the school as for the community.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

The activities of the project that we develop, overlap the information we gained at the discipline Geography in X grade as same as for the XI grade. In the X grade we studied tourism and many of the touristic attractions and then we identified our local touristic locations. In the XI on the Environmental Protection theme we learned that people conserved the inviroment forming natural reserves. In time we found out that our city itself holds a few natural reserves itself. Our project framed itself quite well despite the school hours we had to endure, it was worth it.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

For the realization of this project we used mostly the internet , but an important thing was the books from the school’s library that held most of the information about the region and its history. The local newspaper represent a good aid for our cause as for the high quality photos, they where taken by the best photographer from this community that had a big impact upon our work. The most important technological piece was the computer itself because Internet Explorer program helped us in our work. In conclusion the best technological source that supported us in our research was the internet itself.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

Our college students who participated in the project could be considered ambassadors of the community school, but mainly, they promoted the idea of knowledge of Baia Mare and surroundings. So our idea was not only extended to the school but also within the city, there where many people who agreed to promote the city and some were willing to support us by all means at our community useful. For example, after a visit to a village near Baia Mare, an old man gave us some information about our city’s history and described the community as has ever been seen by us. This man was impressed about what we do, he wished success in the project and congratulated us as we promote internationally Maramures county. But this idea of promoting our community was extended online via the internet, and many of those who have knew what we intend to do, were glad that our city is promoted in the world, to increase tourist attraction and send all our way of life, our customs and traditions.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

This project will have a big impact on our community because will help to improve the knowledge about Baia Mare and Maramures county. A lot of people will have a benefit from this project because this may be an opportunity to develop the touristic attractions of Romania.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

= In our site aren’t only opinions that our students have, but also their views about the people that live in town. Trough a survey made with the help of our society members, we succeed to make a broad and shared idea about the beauties surrounding our location.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

The surprise that we had along the project realisation was that the people didn’t expect from college students to inform themselves so thoroughly about the beauties of this region.
