Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Shezi is an island, and it is used to be surrounded by 3 rivers. On the South-East side of the She-Zi island is the Fanzi Ditch, north is the Keelung River, South is the Tam-Sui River. The two rivers are jointed in the east of She-Zi. The point of joint is like a duck’s beak overlooking the Kuanin mountain, leading to Sanchun, Luchou as well as Kuando and Beitou. As the construction of the highways and bridges began, the water road had ended. Yangping North Road can be extended from section five up to section nine with the help of those modern constructions. However, the cost of modern constructions is vast. Since it leads to the floods of the end sections of the road. And Shezi has the fame for floods with heavy rainfall. Therefore we based our research on the relationship between the reasons for restriction of construction with floods, and also to get to know Shezi now and before.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

For this research project we personally interviewed the leader of Martial Art Class, Teacher Chang and apprentices of Teacher Chang. The interviewees were able to speak about the histories and experiences of the past, and we as team members are to transcribe what they say into words. And now we are trying to tell what we have learned in Mantis Kungfu Spirit. It's not only a traditional culture but a attitude of knowledge and modest. We hope that Teacher Chang's contribution and effort will allow martial art to be passed to the following generations.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

The spirit of Martial arts:

Traditional martial arts skills are the essence of Chinese culture, although few people are committed to promote them, Teacher Chang still has passion for developing martial arts. Learning martial arts is not merely learning a new type of exercise. More often it is a way to learn life philosophy. It takes a heart to learn martial arts. Be attentive to instructions, as well as be heedful to studying. We should never give up studying and should be mindful of our own life. The mantis martial arts school, it is not just teaching and learning, it is also about an apprenticeship of spiritual transcendence.
